Summary

Having been bolstered with the supplies sufficient to carry them through the winter, the survivors of the Jackson commune must now hunker down and endure the bitter Wyoming snows, while to the south, factions are beginning to form, coalescing from the ashes of the dead world.

Out in Arizona, the leftovers of the US Military encamped in the last known surviving tent city: the Elysium Fields.

In Nevada, a clan of scavengers grows ever larger, each day bringing them a step closer to collapsing under their own weight.

Resources are becoming scarcer by the day as the world trudges on, and as it so happens, the folks up in Wyoming appear to be sitting on prime real estate....

I use these audiobooks as I suffer from dyslexia in the form of strenuous reading and headaches this allows me to still be able to enjoy the experience and putting that aside the books have been amazing holding me in and captivating me to the point that I dont want to leave for work perfectly narrated by RC Bray for me he makes the book come to life thank you for your time and determination to publish this book/books

Great set of book ruined by some tiresome dialogue

At the beginning of book three the author informs you that the final two books are the story he wanted to right and that he wanted it to be one book, but it was too long. I am not sure if it was too long due to the lenghty dialogues from some of the characters or if these had been added to pad two books out. Anyhow even delivered by the ever brilliant R C Bray these became annoying and ruined an otherwise enjoyable set of books.

Hence the three stars for story.

Absolutely outstanding

These no part of this book I didn’t like.
The new charterers were great and added a new dynamic to the story .

R C Bray is one of the best narrators around . Every charter he brings to life in a unique way

Please hurry with the next book

Great 3rd book

Unlike some of the other reviews, I though this was a good 3rd book and deserves its place in the series.

Book 3 in a 4 book trilogy..

I bought all 3 books together thinking this was the entire series, but the author admitted at the start of book 3 that in fact there would be a fourth book because book 3 was getting too big. Slightly annoying, but I'd prefer the author gave us the full story rather than edit it down just to get it in 3 books. And frankly it's a brilliant series and worthy of another book.

The writing is really rather good, the plot, although constrained by the genre, is good enough, but what really stands out are the characters and the superbly written dialog. You can definitely see them acting their part in your minds eye. And this of course is helped by the always excellent narration of RC Bray. When Bray is performing Gibbs, you will laugh hard and long at some of the lines. Great lines, well researched and expertly performed..

I heartily recommend this series, but maybe wait for book 4 to be published if like me, you like to listen to a series from start to finish.

And where is book 4? Come on Mr Josh and Mr Bray.. I'm on tenterhooks here..

Much better than the first two books

To my mind this is a vast improvement on books 1 and 2. Less violence and more survival by common sense. Hurry up with book four please.

Very Good, but...

I liked this book, but initially thought it was a by-the-numbers predictable post-apocalyptic survival story. Relatively early in the story it became quite samey, and a touch boring, but it was almost as if the author realised this, and changed things up. The second half took some interesting turns, but some of the characters were hard to identify with, e.g. Jake - I just don't think his personality type would fit his role, or people would have accepted him. A little too sentimental in parts, too. All in all, I did enjoy the book, and RC Bray is my favourite narrator, but I'm in two minds whether to get the latest book.

A good bedtime, long drive or gardening listen.

Loved it. Listening at bedtime can keep you awake though on the tense bits.

ok.im ready for book 4 !

I did struggle with the beginning of this book and I believed it wasn't going to stand up the the two previous titles. however it did improve and on finishing the book I listened to it again. I come to realise it is actually just a good as books 1 and 2.
