Summary

The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes - in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body.

This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering. It is a comprehensive self-help guide for working through the toxic legacy of the past and for achieving a rich and fulfilling life.

Insightful and very Practical

This book has helped me recover from things I didn't know I suffered from, it has opened my life from anxiety, depression and the torment of toxic shame. As a fawn type, I've known how I grovel at people and how people use this to their advantage. I've been able to assess harmful relationships and ammend them while I also gladly let some toxic bridges burn. I am grateful for this book

A comprehensive reference on CPTSD

This book is a comprehensive reference on how to love your self which allows you to live your life in the most wholesome way possible. Though I thought I had done a lot of inner healing through self reflection, the book helped me understand my self empowerment better. It also helped me get insights on what others may have gone through in their CPTSD hence I am better able to get closure, forgive myself and move on.

A great starting point, especially for a road to recovery

Really great insights into what CPTSD is, whilst providing a personal perspective of the author. Many references to how other peoples behaviours manifest, and showcase themselves.

Got this book because I was having flashbacks but didn’t realise that it was such a thing.

Thank you Pete Walker

This book should be part of the constitution! Presentation is lovely and worthy the invaluable knowledge about our dark side and most likely humanity itself -with its historical imperial abuse.

Awful narrator to a great book

Could you please please please get someone else to read the book? It’s a great book and contains so much useful information, but for the love of God, that guy makes me cringe toward the end of every sentence. Every single sentence.

I’m really struggling to hear the rest of the book, just the thought of the tone of the guy saying “abandonment melaaaaange” just one more time, makes me feel like throwing my phone in the wall 🤦🏼‍♀️
