Summary

The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes - in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body.

This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering. It is a comprehensive self-help guide for working through the toxic legacy of the past and for achieving a rich and fulfilling life.

Insightful and very Practical

This book has helped me recover from things I didn't know I suffered from, it has opened my life from anxiety, depression and the torment of toxic shame. As a fawn type, I've known how I grovel at people and how people use this to their advantage. I've been able to assess harmful relationships and ammend them while I also gladly let some toxic bridges burn. I am grateful for this book

A comprehensive reference on CPTSD

This book is a comprehensive reference on how to love your self which allows you to live your life in the most wholesome way possible. Though I thought I had done a lot of inner healing through self reflection, the book helped me understand my self empowerment better. It also helped me get insights on what others may have gone through in their CPTSD hence I am better able to get closure, forgive myself and move on.

This book made a whole picture out of the disparate jigsaw pieces I have gathered in my own recovery process up until now. Very helpful.

An excellent and very practical book

Self-help books sometimes resonate with the reader, sometimes don’t. Either way, this book is better organised than the majority I have read (and I’ve read quite a few). Pete Walker balances theory and practice perfectly and displays remarkable insight into how to REALLY progress on the difficult path of healing from childhood trauma.
