About this listen

No one survived the last battle unscathed. Flint is angry at the world, Jaxon is turning into something I don't recognize, and Hudson has put up a wall I'm not sure I'll ever break through.

Now war is coming, and we're not ready. We're going to need an army to have any hope of winning. But first, there are questions about my ancestors that need answers. Answers that might just reveal who the real monster is among us.

And that's saying something in a world filled with bloodthirsty vampires, immortal gargoyles, and an ancient battle between two gods.

There's no guarantee that anyone will be left standing when the dust settles, but if we want to save this world, I have no choice. I'll have to embrace every part of me...even the parts I fear the most.

I forgive the flaws

I was determined not to rate this as high as the previous ones because, well... she made some seriously questionable decisions. But then the third trial began and I laughed my head off.

Navel gazing and horrific accents

I really want to understand how this author wrote such a great first book, for the next three to go so downhill. I loved the first book and the relationship between Jackson and naive Grace, it was was told so well, I could even get onboard with the return of Hudson and the fact that he was supposed to be her ‘mate’. But there were so many things about this audio book and the story in general that irritated the life out of me!!

If you are going to employ American actors to voice characters with English accents, please find some that have actually listened to an English person speak. It was painful and cringeworthy to hear both the female and male lead actors use the wrong pronunciations especially in swear words, it’s wankers, not wonkers and the use of fook instead using the ‘uh’ sound had me yelling at my phone! Also, the inclusion without explanation of a non binary shape shifting wolf was also jarring with the use of ‘they’ ‘them’ pronouns to describe one person doesn’t make sense in the real world, let alone in this context almost had me giving up half way through.
Ultimately the story was boring, and could have been so much more without the constant navel gazing that Grace did… ‘My mate this, my mate that… my family of friends… and the constant naming of what felt like a hundred friends.
I got to chapter 177 and finally gave up, because I just couldn’t stand a minute more of the male actors terrible accent. Sadly, I don’t know how it ended or if there is another a book, and at this point I have zero desire to find out.
