Summary

From fan-favorite Scarlett St. Clair, the bestselling author of the Hades & Persephone series, comes a new fantasy filled with danger, darkness, and insatiable romance.

Their union is his revenge.

Isolde de Lara considers her wedding day to be her death day. To end a years-long war, she is to marry vampire king Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev, and kill him.

But her assassination attempt is thwarted, and Adrian threatens that if Isolde tries to kill him again, he will raise her as the undead. Faced with the possibility of becoming the thing she hates most, Isolde seeks other ways to defy him and survive the brutal vampire court.

Except it isn't the court she fears most—it's Adrian. Despite their undeniable chemistry, she wonders why the king—fierce, savage, merciless—chose her as consort.

The answer will shatter her world.

Contains mature themes.

Very Average

I do not like insta-lust. It just takes all slow out of a burn.
After a very cringy beginning came a not-so-bad middle. For a moment I thought it will be a decent book. But the ending was just underdeveloped.
The whole scene felt rushed and cliché.

One of my most favorite books

Well god damnit that was a fun read. It had a bunch of tropes I enjoyed including one horse, enemies to lovers, found family, morally grey love interest and more. Although I struggled to picture blonde hair for the love interest. Just seemed weird 😂 The main character was excellently written. She is strong, witty, dangerous and owns her sexuality. It was so fun to read from her perspective and not have it be some shy wildflower cowering when shit hit the fan. The amount of stabbing she does is hilarious at times. I cannot wait for the second book to come out! The story has so much potential and is giving me potential throne of glass vibes with the different ways the author could take this, plus the stabbing... I'm sad its over!

Get it!! Best new series I’ve read in a long time!

Here’s what you get from this story- Strong fierce intelligent female main character! Compelling storyline and world building ! Morally grey alpha male who has a heart ! Spicy spicy spicy scenes ! And both male and female OWN their sexuality with no shame. And it’s LGBTQIA+ friendly. I started this book on 1.2 speed ( speed I usually use) but slowed it down because I didn’t want it to end . I’m so ready for the next one!

10/10!!

LOVED this book so much I listened to it again immediately after I finished it the first time. Some of the names are pronounced incorrectly (according to the author) but I kind of prefer it and it’s not a big deal. I love the way Lilly reads for these characters and I think her emphasis on words and phrases conveys Isolde’s and Adrian’s emotions SO well. Can’t wait for the sequel! I also loved the bonus chapter in Adrian’s POV!

Loved the Main Character

Probably one of my favorite female characters. Totally incredible and badass chick. Also the main guy was all that hot alpha man goodies without the box of red flags. They had good chemistry. The storyline could’ve been more exciting. It felt slow and predictable. Still good. Nice world building and different take on vampires, so original in a lot of ways

Awesome female lead!

It's so nice to get a strong female character who is not completely innocent. I am so excited for the next book!

Surprised how much I liked it!

I love books with this kind of Love Story. Reminded me of Blood and Ash. I wasn’t ready for the twist! I hope there is a book 2!

whiney at times but overall good

The main character was whiney at times, going from strong and fierce to whiney and unknowing.

Most of the issues stem from the narrator so unsure if it was the narrators idea or the author, but it sounded so breathy that at times it sounded like she was out of breath. With the decision to making the narrator breathy, it at times sounded monotone so I had issues at times deciphering if it was narrating a scene, the main characters thoughts, or if she was speaking.

There was also a scene where the main character was supposed to scream so hard/loud - however the narrator made stifled the scream so it was rather awkward.

The bonus chapter of the male narrator had the same issue of breathy and a droning type of narration.
