Summary

The king is dead - and with him, the last thread holding the kingdom together.

Deep cracks are forming throughout the kingdom of Nri with whispers of deadly successors lurking beneath the shadows. Despite having the same face, it seems the deepest crack is forming between Naala and Sinai, the reunited twin goddesses, who must put their differences aside as they travel through a broken Nri.

Unbeknownst to the girls, their use of the mystical Ṇdu crystal has awakened mythical beasts and the lost gods, each returning to Nri one by one. One thing is clear, the twins will have to face enemies at every corner of the kingdom...one of whom lies hidden amongst those they hold dearest.

As ongoing turmoil spreads throughout the kingdom, the daughters of Nri must unmask the true face of their enemy, as they discover that their unique blood has marked them with magic strong enough to restore true peace to the world - a task only they can complete.

But with beasts lurking far and wide, will they be able to do so before the kingdom succumbs to its looming curse?

So… we need part 3 🧐

Obsessed with this book series. We need more books and a few movies 🥰

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and might listen to part 1 and this one again to listen out for details I might have missed 😂

Make this into a movie!

Easily one of the best books I have ever read. Disappointed it came to an end. I am stopping myself from contacting the author and asking her for part 3 or if she is in talks with a director.

I adore them

Amazing! Definitely got all the action I wanted from the first one. I’m so loving following the girls and their friends as they learn more about themselves, their magic and each other.

Enjoyed!

The narrator is wonderful and making the characters come to life.

The language is rich with texture and images from the African folklore and myths from which some of the story is derived.

I loved it.

Absolutely Brilliant, Highly Recommend!

I loved the first book and this did not disappoint, I really enjoyed the character development and the narration was equally as brilliant. Crossing my fingers there's a new book in the series soon!

So good.

It is so wonderful to have a story whose main characters are from Africa with African God's and goddess's. I am really looking forward to the next book.

unfortunately felt disappointed after lovin book 1

I have to say I loved book 1 and was looking forward to following the wonderful main and secondary characters and re-plunge into the beautifully described world inspired by Nigerian beliefs.... however I just didn't really didn't get hooked to this book.... I felt the dialogues were unexciting, the storyline didn't make much sense to me, it felt very slow, some bits just confusing and felt disconnected... and i got way less imagery/sense of place than in book 1. I just found the whole book really unengaging. I see other people seem to also love book 2 so.... maybe it's just me! in any case I really liked the author's work in the first volume and feel I'd in any case want to read more of her work and assume I just didn't gel so much with this one but like future ones.....and I love the narrator in any case!

Interesting lore, but the story feels loose

The narrator does it very well, but the story feels, to me, very loose and at times, not entirely coherent.
Details seem to be skipped, so one quickly lose track of who has what and whether they still have it.
I did not feel like I had any connection to any of the characters and found, that I didn't really like any of them, but that might just be me.

I really like the lore these books have, but it but that alone can not make me recommend them.

Excellent Story!

I loved this! Contrary to what others might say I had no problem with the vocal performance of the narrator. The story was fantastic. I listened to it while working and had no problem following the plot. I’d recommend this to anyone who likes fantasy

Very enjoyable!

Other reviews mention the heavy accent, though the narrator does certainly have an accent I didn’t find it distracting at all, definitely helped bc it matches the setting/characters of the book.

If you feel lost at times (I did) it might be because you didn’t listen to the first book first - I totally didn’t realize this was the second book, whoops! I’m realizing now that the gaps I felt are actually just me missing details from the first book ((facepalm)).

I very much enjoyed it even with the gaps. Love that the characters/story are not all whitewashed, need more of this in fantasy writing!

Very difficult to follow the plot details

This book is read in a very heavy accent. While I can understand how an accent can lend character, this accent is so heavy that it’s difficult to distinguish character names and many other words. If reading a printed book, it would be much easier to distinguish and understand what words are mythical. Either the writer should’ve clarified more terms throughout the book or the reader should have less of an accent. I gave up about halfway through realizing that I didn’t know much about the storyline.

Meh

I like the narrator.
Starts off fast and the beginning…very hard to pay attention.
Not sure if it’s the story or pace?

Descendants of the first

I really, really didn't like this book. the narrator's voice bothered me and was sometimes hard to understand. I listened to the audio book version.

Not as good as 1st

Unlike most of the other reviews I didn't have a problem with the accents, but it was too much going on with the storyline. The plot was hard to follow and there were too many characters to keep up with. I skipped chapters to get to the end. The twin from the city's voice changed from the voice book and she sounded like an annoying privileged brat. Her voice was really annoying.

No way!

I tried to give this book a chance but I could not get into it. I have read other books of the same style that I really enjoyed; which is why I assumed I would like this one. I could not finish this book, and it is not like me to not see a book through to the end.

Great concept, just hard to follow.

I really wanted to love this series.. but it was really hard to follow. The narrator was really good but I wonder if it would have been easier to follow the story reading it vs listening to it. its a lot going on and some of the names sound similar which made it confusing and hard to keep up with what was ultimately going on.

Find Stones Lose Stones Find Stones

Nonstop drama. One questionable decision after another. This could make the story interesting or cause you to root for the heroines to fail because of their poor decision making. The latter isn’t the case for me, but I found it hard to keep interested in the story as “The Twins” bounced from one challenge to the next….and how many times can you lose the darn stones?!

Book 2 is the last book for me……
