Summary

In the thrilling conclusion to the Legacy of Dragons trilogy, ancient weapons of mass destruction lie hidden under the city of Pacta Servanda. Remnants of the Great Guilds and rebellious factions of the Empire want to seize those weapons to allow them to regain control of the world of Dematr. Only Jason, brought by the first ship from Earth since the colony failed, might be able to disarm the threat. But he also might know how to employ those weapons, making him a danger for all sides.

Standing between those threats is Kira of Dematr. But Kira, who inexplicably has been able to manifest Mage powers as well as technical skills, finds herself being consumed by the mental conflicts between those powers and skills. As rogue Mechanics, Mages, and mercenaries attack with every weapon at their disposal, Kira suffers more blackouts and begins to lose her mind. The fate of her world rests on whether she can stay alive and find answers in time to problems that no one else has ever confronted.

overall great but...

I love the Pillars of Reality series, the trials of Mari and Alain as they free the world from the great guilds, it's a nice 6 part story that does a good job in both introducing you to the characters and the world we're in.

The sequel series is a good one as well, with Kira and Jason taking centre stage and showing their mettle, there's just one problem with it.

Kira isn't the most likable of protagonists, she has a massive chip on her shoulder throughout the entire series that never really gets resolved, add to that the abuse that Jason suffers under with her. I'll put it simply, I don't thing Jack Campbell wanted to make a lead character as unlikable as she is in this series, I think he wanted to make a similar struggle for Kira that was there for Mari, where she's forced to do things for the greater good but struggles in it.

The only problem is that of the struggles, book 1 is the only one where we have a whiny Jason, throughout the following books he takes on a role of responsibility and determination, so how Kira continues to treat him is a net negative for the series. I hope for a continuation because I would love to see that she has been cured of this massive itchbey problem, but I doubt it.

incredibly 😴

This audio should have been advertised for the pre teen market. I found the leading man to be a bit of a drip, Kirea just agrivating. The pace.of the book(s) was snail like. I read all 3 books. I did love the narrator's voice and this was the only saving grace in the series.

Why suppressing shoving things down just explodes

I really struggled to finish. By chapter 12 I was really sick of willing Kiera to get the hint that shoving down her mage powers was backfiring. I skipped through the next few chapters to see if it got better, ultimately just speeding through the last chapter. For someone so smart and resourceful she really screwed up and I couldn't keep listening to that.

a good ending to a great story.

the story was great because of the main couple and the trouble they encounter. if there is another sequel I would love to know what happens next.

The Final Book in the Trilogy

Mild Spoiler Alert!

This review will contain spoilers to those who haven't listened to the previous two books.

This book is a hard listen, because it's very similar to previous adventures where Kira and Jason run off and do their own thing. Their actions defy common sense and ki da ignore some of the character development from the previous two books.

Jason is a wet weekend and is just along for the ride as he agrees with whatever Kira says and does... I thought he would of grown a bit in character development but I am wrong.

Overall though the trilogy has been a good listen and I haven't regretted buying it, be warned that book three is a slower of the books and has more of the same kind of action and the previous two books.

I can't fault the narration, all three books have been narrated really really well!

Destiny of a Whining Teenage Girl!

Goodness me. Keira just shut up! She’s really quite annoying. Thankfully she, thanks to Jason; understands what she has to do and all is well!! I’d sussed it out as soon as she blacked out .... but then I’m no longer a teenager, and I have the ability to listen to others. Thankfully as it’s my profession. However MacLeod Andrews is, his usual wonderful self. Thank you. Jack has written another wonderful book. Regardless of the annoying main character. Hopefully there’ll be more. Overall a fabulously good listen. Made wonderful by the exceptional narrator.
