About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Devil's Cub is read by Michael Maloney, who appears in Coronation Street and The Trial of Christine Keller.
Mary Challoner must protect her sister at all costs.
When she discovers that the notorious Marquis of Vidal is planning to run away with her little sister, Mary will not stand idly by.
To save Sophia's reputation without destroying her own, Mary will take her sister's place - and once the Marquis sees through her disguise, he will be humiliated and forced to return her home.
But the irresistible Marquis is a wilder rake than even Mary anticipated, and her growing feelings for him are proving an unexpected complication....

Wonderful!
Michael Maloney's performance is brilliant. His characterisation is masterly. I enjoyed every minute of this audio book. The combination of Michael's performance and Georgette Heyer's stories is first class entertainment. Fabulous!

One of the best Heyer novels.
Although it is not absolutely necessary, as this novel stands supremely well on its own, I would recommend reading “These Old Shades” prior to this one. You will get a fuller understanding of some of the ‘incidental’ characters that are revisited in this novel. Also you will fully comprehend why m’lord Dominic is the Devil’s Cub.
This review is really about the narrator, Michael Maloney. On the whole, I enjoyed his interpretation of the various characters. I especially like how he portrayed John Marling, a serious, yet sensible young man - not a dolt!
But I was supremely unimpressed with how Leonie was represented. Hardly ANY sign of her French accent! As for the French words that she often switched into, it was very poorly portrayed. Female voices were not a strong point, but they were adequately done.
The highest praise that I can give him is that, in comparison to other narrators of this title, he did not age the characters! Most others had the tendency to make everyone seem as if they were 10 years older (& crotchety)! People of 40 or 50 are NOT pensioners!

Lovely
My favourite Georgette Heyer. A bit disappointed that Leonie sounded a bit too English rather than having a French accent, but otherwise the narration was excellent.

Fantastic reading by Michael Maloney
As a big Heyer fan it’s great to have someone do a really good audio version. Hope Michael Maloney can do the rest of the collection. This is one of her best - it’s of its time but no one matches her for Regency detail, rollicking story and humour.

Masterful narration
Masterful narration by film and stage actor Michael Maloney (Truly, Madly, Deeply). Sadly his only Georgette Heyer audiobook. More please!

loved every minute
Michael Maloney's narration is just right, the voice characterizations were just right, this is a delight to listen to. I read all Heyers romances as a schoolgirl and have returned to the books many times since. I will definitely listen to this recording again and again.

An Absolute Joy
This was the best performance of a book I have yet listened to. I have been a fan of Georgette Heyer for over 50 years and have read all of her Regency romances many times over. Although Devil's Cub is not my favourite of her novels it has become one now due to the skilled, intuitive handling of the characters' voices by Michael Maloney. He not only brought them alive but the voices were just as I had imagined them when reading the book.
I laughed so much and it was a lovely experience.
A truly gifted narrator. I would love to hear him read more of Georgette Heyer's books.
