1952. Twelve years have passed since Churchill lost to the appeasers and Britain surrendered to Nazi Germany after Dunkirk. As the long German war against Russia rages on in the east, the British people find themselves under dark authoritarian rule: the press, radio and television are controlled; the streets patrolled by violent auxiliary police and British Jews face ever greater constraints. There are terrible rumours too about what is happening in the basement of the German Embassy at Senate House.
Defiance, though, is growing. In Britain, Winston Churchill's Resistance organization is increasingly a thorn in the government's side. And in a Birmingham mental hospital an incarcerated scientist, Frank Muncaster, may hold a secret that could change the balance of the world struggle for ever.

Simply superb
A fantastic novel that is well written with slowly building tension. It draws you into an England that just might have been, if the cards had fallen just a little differently. C J Sansom always writes entertaining books, but I think this is his best yet.

A bit slow to get started then totally engrossing
I was really sorry when this ended. While it is a bit slow to get started, when it does it's completely absorbing. It's a 'what if' book based on the UK losing the war in 1940 and the Nazis encroaching into the UK. The story relates the effects this has on a civil servant-turned-spy and his wife; and the people they come across in the Resistance and the German security police.
The narrator is excellent.

wow! a must read.
Excellent read. Sansom is unique, he has thought of and included many possibilities and a GB that could have happened if the appeasers to Hitler had succeeded. Well narrated.

Absolutely gripping story of an alternate reality
Dominion is a tour de force of historical fiction. Samson weaves his tale with characters from history alongside his fictional ones. It’s all so believable and shocking given what is happening in the world today.
Daniel Weyman has to be the best narrator I have ever listened to. He should be the official voice of Churchill from now on! He switches between genders, nationalities and regional accents convincingly and with ease. Brilliant!!

Classic tale
Where does Dominion rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It was one of the best, very atmospheric and I felt as though I was there, experiencing all the tension and excitement. It captured parts of Britain at that time but added the historical fiction.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I was a little surprised and there was an interesting twist at the end.
What aspect of Daniel Weyman’s performance might you have changed?

It was a thoroughly enjoyable book as with all of the other CJ Sansom books I have read including the Sheldrake series.

Couldn't put it down.
I listen to my audio books while I'm out walking and this made me want to keep on walking so as to find out what happened. Thought it was a brilliant concept an alternative version of 1940's-1950's history, it felt real. Loved the interplay between all the characters and the descriptions of London and the smog in the 1950's. Probably his best book yet.

Unusual idea well executed
I was swayed by the reviews on this one as the synopsis did not grab me... And how right they were. Sansom creates a totally believable world and history. Excellent levels of tension and intrigue and great narration. Highly recommended.
