Summary

The life of an unscrupulous bastard can sometimes be fraught with difficulties. First, there was the sweet young thing who claimed he'd impregnated her. (Know what a condom is, Brett?) Then there was the desperate young man who wanted to take him to court. (One of the risks you run when you insist upon being so unscrupulous.) How about the guy who showed up at his apartment and threatened him at gunpoint? (Punching him out at that party might not have been such a good idea.) Or the ex-girlfriend who came back, just to call him STUPID? ('Nuff said.) But when someone left a dead body on top of his bedspread, the message that needed to be sent out was clear: "Don't mess with Brett!"

100% grade A all American beef.

The ninth and, apparently, last of this truly terrific series in which the detestable, pugalistic, self styled unscrupulous hastard, Brett Cornell, recounts the happenings in his daily life. Egotistical, opinionated and narcissistic, for some reason best known to themselves, the ladies swoon over his muscled physique, golden curls and fine moustache, overlooking his foul habits, mangled ear, rudeness and inappropriate phrases.
This time, Brett had reluctantly attended a double shower with his current live in girlfriend where he met, and attracted, two stunning women, both relatives of Lola. Shortly after, he also agreed to undertake one of the easiest P.I. jobs ever - to find out who one of the soon to be married women is cheating with - for which he received the handsome sum of $500. So everything seems pretty good for Brett, except ...

Reading as the first person, Travis Henry Carter once again becomes Brett, his personality oozing from every sentence. All of the other protagonists, male and female alike, also have their own very distinctive and appropriate voices and reflect their own emotions, be they anger, fear, shame, hurt or protestations of affection..

My deepest thanks to the rights holder of Don't Mess with Brett who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. I have loved every outrageous minute of this laugh out loud, tongue in cheek series which doesn't have a politically correct word in its body.

Definitely recommended to everyone who doesn't take everything too seriously.
