Summary

Dracula is the seminal gothic horror novel of its time as Bram Stoker introduced the world to the legendary vampire Count Dracula.

Published in 1897 and told through a series of diary entries and letters, the story journeys into the dark world of Count Dracula through the eyes of several different narrators. The novel explores many themes, the role of women in Victorian culture, conventional and conservative sexuality, immigration, colonialism, post colonialism and folklore.

Irish author Abraham "Bram" Stoker (1847 - 1912) was writer of novels and short stories. He was also the personal assistant of the actor Henry Irving and the business manager of the Lyceum Theatre in London, which Irving owned.

Very enjoyable to listen to.

Dracula is a classic in every sense of the word - suspenseful, chilling, and even now, after all these vampire movies, cartoons and the creature's nature in pop culture - thoroughly original.

Christopher Saul is a very good reader, creating new voices for characters and being very easy to listen to, it is a shame he doesn't have more books to his credit.

Done as a series of journals and letters, the style of the book, only helps the audio narration.
There are little things in this reading that are strange to hear, such as page turnings and other noises. Whilst these would be distracting elsewhere, it actually helps the atmosphere and doesn't distract in the slightest.
One could argue against it's sexism, but it was a product of it's time, and ironically enough helps draw you into the time period.

This is a brilliant reading, and good value for money. I very much recommend it.

Dracula a classic story.

A great story narrated by Christopher Saul but I wish Audible would learn how to do chapters, how are you supposed to navigate to the chapter you want if it has chapters inside chapters. Even if this is how they receive them from the company go back in and edit the chapters like the book it's supposed to be like the book but in Audio form what's so hard to understand if you're reading the book the chapters should be exactly the same as the book.

Bringing the Dead to Life

A classic that has been told time and time again; this time Christopher Saul brings the evil one to life and does a bloody good job of it! His characters are alive and believable and you don't get lost between all the diary entries. A great Audio Book

Marvellous - Simply Marvellous!

A classic gothic story that still has spellbinding qualities. Beautifully narrated by Christopher Saul, who was clearly at the pinnacle of his voice talent craft when he recorded this version; his rendition of the Dutch vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing was the most enjoyable and memorable for me. The language, customs, values, and manners are of a bygone age, which may not feel as accessible now for some readers and listeners. For me, though, it was seventeen hours blissfully well spent.

Slow but interesting

I had no preconceived ideas about this story, having never even watched the film.I enjoyed the narrators style & voice.

The story is slow moving and very descriptive as I guess one would expect from a victorian novel. I was been fascinated by the story which I have been surprised to find was not at all scary. I have been interested enough to have a look at 'notes' for those studying the book for literature.I'm glad I have listened to it but can't say I loved it

A Very Patchy and Difficult to Follow Book.

Don't give up the day job Mr Stoker. This book is very difficult to follow. Whilst being excellent read the story cuts so many times between narratives that I easily got lost.

Old fashioned horror story

This was undeniably excellent story telling and absolutely deserves to be considered a classic.
However the language is a bit of a struggle for a modern listener and I started to lose some interest part way through. Might have been easier to read rather than listen to.
