About this listen
Return to the world of the Liveships Traders and journey along the Rain Wild River in the second instalment of high adventure from the author of the internationally acclaimed Farseer trilogy.
The dragon keepers and the fledgling dragons are forging a passage up the treacherous Rain Wild River. They are in search of the mythical Elderling city of Kelsingra, and are accompanied by the liveship Tarman, its captain, Leftrin, and a group of hunters who must search the forests for game with which to keep the dragons fed. With them are Alise, who has escaped her cold marriage to the cruel libertine Hest Finbok in order to continue her study of dragons, and Hest's amanuensis, Bingtown dandy, Sedric.
Rivalries and romances are already threatening to disrupt the band of explorers: but external forces may prove to be even more dangerous. Chalcedean merchants are keen to lay hands on dragon blood and organs to turn them to medicines and profit. Their traitor has infiltrated the expeditionand will stop at nothing to obtain the coveted body parts. And then there are the Rain Wilds themselves: mysterious, unstable and ever perilous, its mighty river running with acid, its jungle impenetrable and its waterways uncharted.
Will the expedition reach their destination unscathed? Does the city of Kelsingra even exist? Only one thing is certain: the journey will leave none of the dragons nor their human companions unchanged by the experience.

Better than the first book in the series
This second book I found to be more interesting than the first one. The characters were flashed out and engaging. I personally didn’t like the narration although it did sound northern England accent. Even in the first book I could recognise different characters based on narrator changing sound. Far harder this time.

One narrator not three...
These books need 1 author for the whole series not three different narrators across 4 books.

Much better than Book 1
The plot and interaction between the characters is much more engaging than Book 1. You want to keep listening to find out what happens next! It's well narrated too. Recommended.

Great book but the narrator was really off putting
The lady that reads this book sounded alternately like she needed to blow her nose, clear her throat and worst of all; take a drink so her mouth didn’t sound claggy and clicky and dry. So horrible a sound. I only persevered as I have listened to every other book in the series, and this was next. Just hoping she only reads this one!!! Yuck!
The book otherwise is fantastic as always for this series

Even better than book one!
Really enjoyed this book. Character development was good. Dragons remain interesting. Story was perhaps slightly predictable in points. But the routes to the anticipated events were always unexpected.

Narration was poor - story was excellent
This has been the only time any narration has sounded like an amateur, no individual voices to distinguish.

A reet good yarn
loved this story, it carries you away, listened to it every spare moment. reasonably safe for work (with the exception of f a couple of moments) I thought the narrator was perfect. with her down to earth northern accent..
I'm looking forward to the next bookin the series.

Excellent as usual, great series, making my way through all the books in all the trilogies and they're all great.

Lazy or amateur editing
The otherwise awesome story and second book of the series was read nicely, although I strongly prefer when a series is read by the same actor(s). If the same actor is not available, the new actor should at least try to pronounce the names of places and people the same way as done in the previous book. But this is a small inconvenience compared to editing. The editing of this book was done on a level way bellow anything I've listened so far. There was background noise next to total silence (Did a chapter end? Did the app crash?). Bad cross-fadings (so bad i hardly understood the word) and far too many places where a part of the text was repeated. All in all really hard to concentrate and get the emotional experience I was hoping and waiting for.

Shame
While I was getting hooked with the 1st book was then left diss interested with the change in narrator? Saskia Butlar was excellent why why why book two with Jacqui Crago seemed a completely different Book. Ruined the whole book
