Better than the first!

Well that was a rollercoaster.
Josie has left the old West and been dumped into the Mongol Empire. Feeling out of place there was nothing compared to here. She has no idea who to trust or what she’s supposed to do, desperate for home but with no way to return, she doesn’t know what to do or who to trust, definitely not Batu the warrior she meets ‘imprisoned’ in a dungeon.
Told from the first person Lizzy again makes us feel what she feels, weaves a dizzying tale of a woman out of time. But this time, she’s a little stronger and a little more determined not to let circumstances drag her down.

I’m a huge Lizzy fan, but Josie annoyed me a little in the first book, in this one she’s grown and won me over, I literally couldn’t put it down.
The ending though Lizzy WHY?!! I know there are 4 books but the stress! I need the rest immediately, please and thank you!

Fabulously enjoyable!

This audiobook needs to come with two warnings. 1. You have to read the books in order. Each subsequent book is a continuation of the previous as Josie's time travel adventures (or is that misadventures?) continue. 2. Set time aside to listen to this book because it is hard to press pause for an extended period of time. Perhaps a third warning should be to plan on purchasing the whole series because you are probably going to want to know what happens next.

Josie's time travels take her to the Mongolian steppes during the peak of the Mongolian empire. Despite being fiction, I like how Lizzy Ford tries to make the story as culturally authentic as possible. The Mongolians assume she is a goddess gifted to them from the sky. Only Carter places her 70 years before she is needed and he puts her to sleep and tucks her away for that time. She wakes in Iraq just before the community she is in is decimated by the Mongols. She finds herself the "prisoner" of the appointed guardian of the goddess Moonbeam (which is her name in this time) and after several harrowing challenges she accompanied Batu (her guardian) to his home on the steppes.

Despite their cultural differences, Batu and Moonbeam find their relationship developing and morphing from friends to much more. Life on the Mongolian steppes isn't easy but Josie slowly finds her footing. However, Carter has more planned for her.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Being a series and knowing how Carter can suddenly pull the plug on Josie's time in a certain era, the reader is anticipating his next move while hoping it won't happen. As soon as I finished this book I started the next and am now eagerly anticipating the last book in the series. Ummm.... actually I cannot wait for the last book!!!

This series goes from strength to strength

Lizzy Ford, author extraordinaire, is an evil mastermind. She knows exactly how to weave a suspenseful tale and how much to give the reader before taking it away, enough to break your heart and enough to make you demand to know how Josie's story ends.

Written in the first person, from the perspective of Josie, we feel everything that this lovable and sensitive (but not too sensitive) characters as she's torn from the world she knows and finds herself lost in time and in Mongolia, on this occasion.

Still reeling from the upheavals that beset her in the first book, she has to find herself a place in this new world. What makes this so engaging to read/listen to is that she's developing as a character and Ford takes a deep dive into her psyche to really explore how being so lost and confused would feel when you're a naturally warm and empathetic person. This is why the author is an evil mastermind.

I'm impressed by the scope of the author's writing, she's successfully gone from the wild West to the Mongolian empire without breaking her stride - writing outside your own culture can be a minefield but in this case, I think it's perfectly done.

The book follows the journey of Josie and Batu to the steppes, their interactions are fascinating as they bond despite being such different people. There's nothing rushed in the writing style and I was hooked.

Not only does every fan of time travel, fantasy and romance needs to listen to this book. I think that Lillian Yves' has outdone herself with this particular title - she turns Josie into a real and breathing person for you, which makes this story all the more breathtaking. As a first person perspective, I think it's essential to pick the right voice artist for the role and this was a match made in heaven.

OMG! What a ride! It was so engaging, I couldn’t stop listening... and the story just gets better and better 😍
I think I like these series more than Outlander now 😂

I enjoyed listening to Lillian on pervious work but this series is not fir me.
