About this listen

Naomi Novik’s stunning series of novels follow the adventures of Cpt Laurence and his dragon Temeraire as they travel from the shores of Britain to China and Africa.

Laurence and Temeraire made a daring journey across vast and inhospitable continents to bring home a rare Turkish dragon from the treacherous Ottoman Empire.

Kazilik dragons are firebreathers, and Britain is in greater need of protection than ever, for while Laurence and Temeraire were away, an epidemic struck British shores and is killing off her greatest defence – her dragon air force is slowly dying.

The dreadful truth must be kept from Napoleon at all costs. Allied with the white Chinese dragon, Lien, he would not hestitate to take advantage of Britain's weakness and launch a devasting invasion.

Hope lies with the only remaining healthy dragon – Temeraire cannot stay at home, but must once again venture into the unknown to help his friends and seek out a cure in darkest Africa.

"Novik won me over with her first novel. the combination of history, sympathetic characters, and an engaging style makes this series great, intelligent fun." (The Times)

"Plenty of intrigue, swordplay, exotic locations, plausible invention. In short a treat." (The Telegraph)

Skipping issues persist

The book itself is wonderful, the narration superb- but as previous listeners mentioned (I had hoped this would have been resolved) the narration skips several lines and once also pages (!) at a few points points, at the end the voice doubles once and you hear two parts at the same time. At one point the story skips forward and then goes back! This is very disorientating! AM going to return this in the hope it will be fixed, happy to buy it again then!

Please fix audiobook errors!!!

Love this series, and performance is great - but PLEASE fix the sections out of order in the middle! Parts are missing or swapped around and it was very disappointing to not be able to follow the story.

Occasionally skips parts

I have this in paperback and after comparing have noticed it occasionally skips parts, once as much as a whole page. I have over 100 audible titles and this is the only one that seems to skip.

Do Not Purchase

This book is out of order and I'm not convinced there aren't chapters missing. How this ever made it past the review stage I've no idea. Story and performance are good.

Very bad quality version

Great story, superb performance, let down by a poor quality to the recording or mastering of the actual audiobook that spoils key moments, and has some sections missing entirely!
