Summary

Exploring the extraordinary social and political dominance enjoyed by the British aristocracy over the centuries, Entitled seeks to explain how a tiny number of noble families rose to such a position in the first place. It reveals the often nefarious means they have employed to maintain their wealth, power, and prestige and examines the greed, ambition, jealousy, and rivalry which drove aristocratic families to guard their interests with such determination. In telling their history, Entitled introduces a cast of extraordinary characters: fierce warriors, rakish dandies, political dilettantes, charming eccentrics, arrogant snobs, and criminals who quite literally got away with murder.

Entitled

I don’t comment on most books but felt I really had to in this case.
Firstly, I am of a left wing persuasion but really this developed into a RANT and did itself NO favours. I am disappointed in Chris Bryant - I thought he was better than that.
Secondly, the reader of the book really does need to ensure that he pronounces names correctly, for example, Alnwick, Boughton, Pytchley. Deplorable in a book of this nature.
To submit my comment i am informed I needed to rate the Performance - it did not deserve one star!

Interesting but spoiled by narrator

When the narrator mispronounces the name of my home town and the local landowner early on that’s only the start! (Ardrossan & Eglinton btw) I’ve got an Ayrshire mindset (the rank is but the Guinea’s stamp!) no respecter of persons so overall Bryant is preaching to the converted. Our Scots aristos went more English than the English after the Unions & the old English ones were aye fighting us or the French or often both. At least today’s Tory life peers don’t retain title & privilege for endless generations!
