About this listen
A year after the tragic death of her husband, Kate Nichols, still overwhelmed with grief, meets Richard Marshall. A divorced father of two, Richard’s messy involvement with his bi-polar ex-wife troubles Kate but, despite these obstacles, she can’t stop herself from falling in love.
Meanwhile, as Kate’s father battles with the final stages of cancer, her divorced mother has found a new love in Ben. But Kate’s suspicions are roused as her mother’s behaviour becomes increasingly furtive. When the truth about her mother and Ben is revealed Kate finds herself unavoidably embroiled and is unable to share her secret.
Her father is dying, Richard is taken up with his ex-wife; Kate fears losing him and feels her whole world is beginning to crumble.…

Simply - Dreadful
I was deeply disappointed by this book. Sandra Howard's previous novels were well written & interesting, if not great literature - this is simply - dreadful.
It is badly written and has a chronic lack of narrative coherence - if I did not know better I would think it was bad satire. This is intended as serious literature but sadly Mrs Howard appears to have mislaid her mojo and instead gives us a hideous glimpse into the vacuous lives of the beautiful people..
The characters are self pitying, hysterical and have the emotional range of a 2 year old.
The plot is preposterous and the achingly bad sex scenes, of which there are many, appear to have been written to shock the readers of The Lady.
But if you like purple prose and a good chuckle at risible metaphor - this book is for you.
Given the execrable quality of the material - the sugary voiced narrator did a passable job.
