Summary

If you’re different enough, the night is not your enemy, the darkness is not intimidating, the shadows are not terrifying. You fear nothing.

Christopher Snow is different from all the other residents of Moonlight Bay, different from anyone you’ve ever met. For Christopher Snow has made his peace with a very rare genetic disorder that leaves him dangerously vulnerable to light. His life is filled with the fascinating rituals of one who must embrace the dark. He knows the night as no one else can - its mystery, its beauty, its terrors, and the eerie silken rhythms that seduce one into believing anything - even freedom - is possible.

Until the night Christopher Snow witnesses a series of disturbing incidents that sweep him into a violent mystery only he can solve, a mystery that will force him to rise above all fears and confront the many-layered secrets of Moonlight Bay and its strange inhabitants. A place, like all places, that looks a lot different after dark.

Typically Koontz

This could have easily been an odd Thomas story. Performance from the orator was weak. Good enough story.

I struggled to stay focused, but did enjoy the book. I think I might read it.

Fantastic first story in the (almost) trilogy

I absolutely love the Chris Snow books and the audiobook doesn't disappoint.

This book was written before Koontz lost his way, forgot about the importance of plot and character development and got caught up in his own overly flowery language which makes his new books such a chore to read (I gave up on him after One Door Away From Heaven).

The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because it took me a while to get used to the narrator, as I had a very vivid idea in my head of how Chris would talk and he wasn't it, but that's just my personal taste.

However the narrator does a brilliant job, the story is creepy, mysterious, tense, scary and everything you want and expect from earlier Koontz. Now I'm off to listen to the sequel, Seize The Night!!!

enjoyable revisit of an old favourite

this was my first audio book. I read the physical book a long time ago and loved it. I wanted to dive into audio books with a comfortable favourite. I thoroughly enjoyed the revisit. I did initially struggle with the performance, due to having read this before I already had my own version in my head. my own voices for the characters. but soon enough I was wrapped up in the story again. really enjoyed it.

I think I am grown past these types of stories.

Lots of weirdness, as if Mr Koontz is just rambling in his own fantasies. And a fair bit of unnecessary repetition of explanations. I struggled from about 2/3 the way through and it got harder to fight my way to the end. Finally gave up on the last chapter.

Great story. Fantastic narrator.

An absolutely brilliant book. If you enjoyed "Watchers" you'll love this book. It has 4 (one is a dog) main characters that you can't help but love. The topics are well researched. It is well paced from the start. It doesn't flow in a gallop but gets more and more intriguing as it flows smoothly towards its climax. I'm a Dean Koontz fan. I particularly love this book, in fact I treasure it.
Some great advice is included in the pages. Don't try to leave your mark on this world - It's perfectly beautiful, and man's in attempts to make it better usually kick us in the butt. Humanity should stop meddling.
The second book "Seize The Night" is also brilliant. The town's supposedly closed down military base is also mentioned in "Odd Interlude".
I highly recommend all three books!!

Brilliant!

I love this first book about Moonlight Bay. Have listened to it many times and it gets better every time. I'm waiting for Dean Koontz to complete this brilliant story by writing the last one of the trilogy.

"I need to know but I don't want to"

Frustrating, infuriating, tedious with a weak narrator.
And I have the sequel too! 😩
