One of my favourite Dean Koontz stories

I really enjoyed listening to this. It kept me engaged and they really should make this into a film.

Koontz exaggerated slightly.

I think that people are a bit harsh on Mr Charles. I thought that He wasn’t bad at all. Slightly rushing through the book at times but not bad.
(If you want to hear bad reading then listen to Hundred Years of Solitude).
The story started really well and then became too unbelievable to me. He was trying to make it scary but too much.
Still, I love Dean Koontz and I will keep listening his books.

Only four stars ....

I’ve given this book 4 stars as I feel it seemed a little dated. I kept thinking how much easier their predicament would be with a mobile phone.
However, it was still a good romp in the usual Koontz style.

Difficult to listen to

story was great, always enjoy Koontz style but the narration sounded clipped in places as if AI were involved. This made it difficult to understand and not an enjoyable listen. Such a shame as the voice wasn't too bad sometimes. Ruined the experience for me.

Koontz at his imaginative best

A really strong idea with excellent characters who are thoughtfully developed. Midnight features Koontz's usual high-octane action & trademark rapid pace, but there's pause enough to catch your breath and smile, even laugh along with some of the more loveable characters.

Dense but overall decent

This was my first Koontz story audio-book and otherwise and I was surprised by the vats amount of detail, when focused on the audio-book it's interesting and the plot sucks you in however because of how dense the content is it can be hard to concentrate and keep track of where you are in the story

ok, but formulaic

this is the second Dean Koontz book I've listened to (first was Phantoms). it's ok, but essentially the same story again. remote small town overridden by evil forces, defeated by a plucky small band of adults plus a child caught up in the middle of it all. like I said I enjoyed it well enough but I think I've heard enough of Mr Koontz for now. narration is good, if a bit cheery for a tale of dismorphic horror.

Story was a bit meh

Story was a bit out dated, but it was written in 1988-1989. I read some reviews complaining about this; ie why didn't Sam use a mobile phone etc. If the story had been updated and modernised, then it would have changed the whole story. I think the one thing that ruined this novel was the narrator, J. Charles. He mispronunced so many words that it was a distraction. He has trouble with every word that had "own" in it, by adding an e, making it owen. Example. Shown would be said as showen. I read some other reviews that said they were also annoyed by this. Overall, I love Dean Koontz and his love for dogs. I do wished he had spent a little more time developing Moose, the lab.
