About this listen

Lincoln is a good boy. At the age of four, he is curious, clever and well behaved. He does as his mum says and knows what the rules are.

'The rules are different today. The rules are that we hide and do not let the man with the gun find us.'

When an ordinary day at the zoo turns into a nightmare, Joan finds herself trapped with her beloved son. She must summon all her strength, find unexpected courage and protect Lincoln at all costs - even if it means crossing the line between right and wrong, between humanity and animal instinct. It's a line none of us would ever normally dream of crossing. But sometimes the rules are different.

I believed the hype ...

Don't believe the hype. Struggled to finish this, slow slow slow. Never gained any speed and ended with no answers at all.

Great listen!

Really enjoyed this book and the story was built well - only thing I would add is I'd have liked a better rounded off ending. As it felt me wondering.

If you have a problem with hunting, DON'T read.

This has to be the slowest thriller that I have ever listened to. The main character doesn't make any logically decisions that would be something you would do without thinking in a situation, like calling the police on your phone with information rather than checking the news.

There is also some graphic descriptions of the animals who are either shot or have been shot, and the comment of 'I wonder if people ever wear this as coats?' when referring to a colobus monkey in chapter 10.The main character often talking about her father killing doves in detail to, so if you have a problem with the death of animals for sport or entertainment, avoid this book.
