About this listen
With record-breaking highs one minute and economy-rocking lows the next, it can seem as if there's no way to feel truly comfortable in the mysterious world of finance. But there is, and it's more accessible than you might think.
Financial Literacy: Finding Your Way in the Financial Markets is an essential primer on this domain, from its functions, strengths, and possibilities to its weaknesses and vulnerabilities. In 24 eye-opening lectures, an award-winning Duke University professor reveals the interconnected workings of the financial markets and how society's financial strength -and your own - depend on money flowing through these channels.
You'll not only gain a new appreciation for the variety of financial products and services available to you, but also for how crucial we as individuals are to the functioning of the entire system.
You'll clearly see how these markets affect you - and vice versa - any time you're involved in a financial transaction, whether you're
- financing a car;
- Applying for a mortgage
- Receiving a preapproved credit card offer
- Participating in your company's 401K plan or
- Making a deposit at your local bank.
This course provides the concepts and tools you need to draw connections between headlines made globally and what's happening to your bottom line locally. By the final lecture, you'll understand just how interdependent the world's markets have become; feel newly at ease in the realm of stocks, bonds, derivatives, and credit; and be better able to make informed decisions for your financial future.

Outstanding course
This was really easy to understand and enjoyable to listen to if you find finance and economics interesting. Connel Fullencamp explained all key aspects of finance in plain English with examples and, at times his own opinion. The PDF is extensive and has all details of each topic we listened to. 100% recommend.

Normally listening to financially books is difficult to understand, but this one is different. The example are easy to understand and it gives you the will to do more research.

Some really valuable information
As always Connel is one of the better lecturers in The Great Courses. an expert on financial economics, he is easy to listen to and absorb usually quite complex and sophisticated content.
I have listened to and purchased many of his lectures which are valuable resources to anyone interested in finance & investment and business economics at any level.
This subject is usually not easily adaptable to audiobook format because one usually expects complex financial formulas, charts and numbers etc...
But Connel has remarkably managed to structure and deliver the material so that it is meaningful without needing those formats.
The reader can then go and investigate and research further with numerical material as necessary having been given a good overview.
For the novice this is an accessible course because he introduces some basic mathematical finance in a simple introductory manner but at the same time not being "old rope" for the more experienced investor, as it's a quick refresher over those parts, presented with a contemporary angle.
There are some valuable tips especially in the economic and financial indices section. Useful indicators to understand the likely movements of the markets and to get ahead of the markets when making investment decisions.
My only complaint is the chapter headings are somewhat convoluted and don't completely reflect the content and the valuable material within each. Refer to the PDF to get a better idea of what's covered under exact sections.
The course is focused on the US markets but the content is still relevant to most other major economies in the world.

The great courses please STOP THE CLAPPING. Same very irritating irrelevant clapping at the beginning and end of each course.
