Summary

A Necromunda audiobook

Dark secrets lurk in the Fallen Dome of Periculus, and Tempes Sol of the Guild of Light seeks them out to cement his place in the underhive - if he, and Hive Primus itself, can survive what he unleashes.

Listen to it because: venture into the darkest reaches of the underhive with a soul who seeks to bring light and forge his destiny, and experience the horrors that follow.

The story: the Fallen Dome of Periculus, once a hub of sanctioned commerce and illicit dealings, is lost no more...and the prizes it holds are sought by noble, Guilder, and hive scum alike.

For Tempes Sol of the Guild of Light, Periculus is an opportunity to not only prove his superiority over his superstitious peers but also to see the end of Lord Silas Pureburn, Keeper of the God-Emperor’s Eternal Flame, bringer of fire and faith to the rioting masses, and his most hated rival.

But Periculus did not fall by chance. Dark secrets lurk in its shadows - forbidden archeotech, twisted creatures that feast on flesh, and an insidious rage afflicts all who dwell inside its confines. As madness and violence erupt within the fallen dome, the legacy of Periculus threatens not only to consume the underhive, but ultimately Hive Primus itself.

Written by Denny Flowers. Narrated by Joe Jameson. Running time 13 hours 30 minutes.

A brilliant dive into the depths of Necromunda

I loved this book, so many elements and strands with loads of characters from Denny Flowers previous writings ... definitely his "Necromunda Avengers".
Joe Jameson's range of voices were amazing and I hope he becomes the regular on any of the auther's future audiobooks!

The best Necromunda Novel I have come across

Okay so this is not Dan Abnett, but it is a solid story and the performance is excellent. If you are a fan of the Necromunda setting you should enjoy this, it does a good job of expanding the world of Necromunda that other Necromunda novels fail to do.

Interesting and Intriguing

I enjoyed this book, it isn’t my favourite Necromunda book that is Kal Jericho and that is because it had all of the usual grim dark horror but it also had humour which this book lacked, that’s just a personal request, I am sure many would prefer the book as is, good read but could have been better, narration was good

A Warhammer 40k gem

A twisting tale of intrigue set on the bottom rung on the Imperium of man. Lots of grimdark action without veering completely off into horror. An already solid novel is really lifted by the reader though, you know who is speaking just from his voice and all the accents and cadances are spot on and are more appropriate for the underhive than say a booming Toby Longworth. Black Library would do well to get both Flowers and Jameson long term contracts as they really delivered here.

A great story within Warhammer

This book gets how to construct the Necromunda setting to tell a compelling story and how to use the factions and houses to build characters that embody different ideas. Has a surprising amount of commentary and humanity that you don't expect from Warhammers grim dark. Tho if this is your first reading Warhammer/Necromunda it can be pretty dense on the terminology. It explains all it's lore and sci fi terms well enough but don't feel bad if you feel you need a wiki to keep track of the different house.

Thankfully the scope and focus on the story doesn't loose track of the character drama and stays grounded which can be hard for WH stories. All the characters have fun contrasting internal workings and they weave through the story in a very compelling way. They are also brought to life by the amazing voicing acting.

However by the end it does feel not all of the characters have a pay off the story seemed to be suggesting. It can also feel hard at times to keep track of how the final is functioning and the resolution does feel slightly rushed and in parts unfulfilling. However for delivering a story really willing to explore Warhammers more untapped elements through a human drama it's a solid recommend.

Found the story difficult to follow but still good

I really like the performance and the basis of the story. I don’t know if this was just me but I struggled to keep track of the characters and therefore the thread of the story.

I do think worth a credit but maybe I’ll listen to the story a second time to see if I can follow better.
