Summary

The first nine months of Donald Trump's term were stormy, outrageous - and absolutely mesmerising. Now, thanks to his deep access to the West Wing, best-selling author Michael Wolff tells the riveting story of how Trump launched a tenure as volatile and fiery as the man himself.

In this explosive audiobook, Wolff provides a wealth of new details about the chaos in the Oval Office. Among the revelations:

  • What President Trump's staff really thinks of him
  • What inspired Trump to claim he was wiretapped by President Obama
  • Why FBI director James Comey was really fired
  • Why chief strategist Steve Bannon and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner couldn't be in the same room
  • Who is really directing the Trump administration's strategy in the wake of Bannon's firing
  • What the secret to communicating with Trump is
  • What the Trump administration has in common with the movie The Producers

Never before has a presidency so divided the American people. Brilliantly reported and astoundingly fresh, Michael Wolff's Fire and Fury shows us how and why Donald Trump has become the king of discord and disunion.

Over the top?

I am English so that may colour how I see this, but I thought the material could have been dealt with in a more measured way and less sensational. Surely the facts of this presidency and how it came about speak loudly enough? I found the reader to be very bombsstic and I would’ve appreciated a more subtle, and analytical approach. I get that The book will sell for its summary of deeply worrying, bordering on outrageous actions and decisions of this White House and the apparently inside experience of the author as he watched some of this in person but dialling it back 30% would have made it more palatable to listen to.

A surprisingly even handed review of Trump

Not what I was expecting it gave credit to Trump where due not a hatchet job
A good performance and we'll written book, of course when you finish it it is very hard to sleep with the thought that someone as stupid as Trump has his finger on the nuclear button.
It was a difficult listen because each day into his reign Trump became more demented..

House of Cards

What made the experience of listening to Fire and Fury the most enjoyable?

The narrator was perfect for this book.

What did you like best about this story?

It reads like the best episodes of "House of Cards".
This book is not a heavy weight political tome. It's a fast paced, entertaining read rather than a meticulously researched piece of journalism. However if only part of it is true, it doesn't seem to matter, Trump has made telling the truth irrelevant; the fact that he tried hard to stop it's release makes it so more believable. We've all seen the news, this book adds background and context to events we already know happened.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh and it made me afraid. Real people voted for this moron and those with the power to call time on his ridiculous presidency aren't doing it.

Boring and repetitive. (but interesting in places)

There's quite a few interesting bits tied up in hours and hours of tedious drivel. Many of the key parts have already been summarised and spread all over the media.

A Whirl of Staff and Ideas

We in Europe feel strongly about American presidencies, perhaps because of their habit of declaring themselves the leaders of the free world. “Not of us!” we often want to cry. Obama was called the best American president Europe ever had; and conversely many of us heard about the election of DJT with horrified dismay. I wanted “Fire and Fury” to untangle the events of 2016 & 2017 and show some kind of comprehensible narrative arc. In the first few chapters, and the epilogue it has done that to some extent, so well done. The trouble is the context, the weather, the hollow-centred battering randomness of Trump’s White House. Not Michael Wolff’s fault obviously, but it’s frustrating. And then there’s trust: what’s Wolff’s agenda? One or two important questions go unanswered. Despite all that I would heartily recommend this book, it’s full of surprising, interesting, significant, sometimes funny revelations.

Incredible story

Almost unbelievable. We all watched it happen live, and now we know what we suspected.

Entertaining tabloid gossip

If you despise Trump, this will keep you entertained. But this is no worthy, carefully crafted political opus: it’s nine hours of gossip. Nothing more.

Compelling reads like a thriller

I found this book so interesting filling in shocking detail as a fly on the wall of the on going sage of what will doubtlessly be recorded in history as a turning point in human civilisation and culture from democracy to who knows where...

A revelatory and highly enjoyable look backstage

In 2016 it was said that non Trump supporters took him literally but not seriously and that his supporters took him seriously but not literally.

Similarly with this book it should likely be taken seriously but not entirely literally. It speaks of a more fundamental truth regarding the Trump presidency even if media sources have raised some questions regarding the authors facts and sources. (E.g.I wonder how he can retell small contemporaneous details from two different locations during the CIA speech when he can only have been at one site, if there at all.)

But - It just makes soo much sense. I have spent too much time reading articles and politico pieces about what Trump has done and this book plausible answers the question "why?"

Though one should be aware that Bannon seems to he the source or POV of much of the story and there is likely other views as well.

The performance is well done with emphasis for sarcasm and point of view. Great listen!
