About this listen
Years ago, the skies ripped open and the world was destroyed in fire and ash. Dragons - once creatures of legend - are the enemy. Vicious and unpredictable, they rule the skies of the ruined cities, forcing humanity to huddle behind barricades for safety.
Claudia's a survivor. She scrapes by as best as she can in a hard, dangerous world. When she runs afoul of the law, she's left as bait in dragon territory. She only has one chance to survive - to somehow tame a dragon and get it to obey her.
Except the dragon that finds her is as wild and brutal as any other...and he's not interested in obeying. What he is interested in is a mate.
Contains mature themes.

Great idea, lags in the middle
Ruby Dixon writes great romances of characters with wildly different backgrounds and attitudes (and species). This is another good one but, after a pretty strong start, this lost momentum somewhere in the middle. I couldn’t warm to the FMC for some reason.
I’d read it, though, if you like shifters, dystopias, and a very decent amount of steam.
I was glad the male narrator only did a couple chapters — he just didn’t do it for me.

Unusual but great
This was the first Ruby Dixon story I’ve listened to , but I will listen to more .
The narrators were well chosen and I feel that they suited the characters well.

Great
What a joy to have a longer book from Ruby, than the IPB series which I thoroughly loved too. I really enjoyed my first foray into dragon shifters. Totally yummy. Very well narrated.

lovely fantasy romance
the main character was driving me crazy and I had to skip some of the story as it was very repetitive and filled with not important info. a lovely fantasy world that lacked more information due to memory loss. hopefully next books will reveal more. I give 3* just because the character as she was not really my favourite. otherwise a lovely book.

Loved it
Loved this book, just the right about of lust mixed with a good storyline, and it was on the plus category, what’s not to love.

Interesting start to the series but...
As a devout follower of Ruby's Ice Planet Barbarians, I was expecting a bit more world building and background. There is quite a bit in this book but somehow it doesn't have the same pace and interest the IPB series has. The characters are well laid out and you get to know their motivations really well. The dystopian society that Ruby creates is also fascinating and we get to meet a few other players in their town that help to lay the foundation. I want to know more about where the Drakoni came from and why but I guess you gotta leave something for later in the series.
In the meantime though, the 3 stars were on account of the inconsistencies. Maybe because Ruby did such a bang up job of creating the most amazing Ice Planet and back story I'm not expecting inconsistencies, but a few of them are there and they do pull me out of the story sometimes. For example, how does he know some of her thoughts but not others? How is it they land in the midst of a barracks and soldiers don't swarm him the minute he turns human? Little bits kept jumping out to me as I listened. I guess I've been spoiled by the IPB series because once I'm in those books, I'm literally in that world and completely immersed. I didn't feel like that with this one.
Having said that, it is a good story. Claudia and Kyle did make be bark out the odd laugh here and there. And you do want Kyle to literally take a bite out of the Captain of the Guard and the Mayor because they are such turds (excuse the 6 yr old language!) The narrators do a great job of bringing it to life though I did chuckle and roll my eyes a bit when Kyle's voice had to repeat the madness mantra a few too many times in every which way he could think of. Points to him for making it different each time!
I will be buying the 2nd in the series because I'm sure I'll learn a lot more about this new Drakoni-Human world Ruby's creating and frankly, I'm ever so curious to find out more. I really want to know what happens to Sasha and if Amy ever grows a spine, or always had one that never had the opportunity to grow.
