You meet a stranger at a party. She looks like you, sounds like you. Even has your name...

Everything she is about to tell them is a lie...

Evie Porter has everything a girl could want: a doting boyfriend, a house with a picket fence, a fun group of friends.

The only catch: Evie Porter doesn't exist.

First comes the identity. Once she's given a name and location by her employer, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it.

Then the mark: Ryan Sumner.

The last piece of the puzzle is the job. For Evie, this job feels different. Ryan has gotten under her skin and she's started to picture another kind of life for herself - one where her boss doesn't pull the strings. But Evie can't make any mistakes. Because the one thing she's worked her entire life to keep clean, the one identity she could always go back to - her real identity - just walked right into this town. A woman, who looks just like her, has stolen her name - and she wants more. As Evie's past begins to catch up with her, can she stay one step ahead to save her future?

Critic reviews

Buckle up . . . the best cat and mouse suspense I've read in years (Lisa Gardner)
Clever, twisty, and suspenseful, First Lie Wins kept me on my toes right up to the satisfying conclusion (Diane Chamberlain)
What a box of tricks! First Lie Wins flickers past like a shadow-play: just when you think you've worked out what you're seeing, the shapes shift, the scene transforms, and - hold on - maybe you had it wrong a moment ago? Cool and clever and full-on fun, the sort of slippery high-stakes now-you-see-me-now-you-don't thriller that few novelists are bold enough to attempt these days. Pick it up, please. This is a good one (A.J. Finn)

A must read

Right up until the last line I was hooked….so many twists and turns. I don’t want to spoil it but my last thought as it finished was 'wow I didn’t see that coming’!

Great twist.

One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Couldn’t stop listening. Great twists that you don’t see coming.

Gripping, fun and clever

So enjoyable with clever and unpredictable twists and turns throughout. Listened in less than 24 hours! The protagonist is a very likeable antihero.

Disappointing

This started out so well and i thought it was going to be a great story of twists and turns in it. But sadly for me that was not the case it got very silly and so unbelievable. Not sure what the Author was trying to achieve in this book but for me it just got very silly and jumping all over the place trying to build up suspense which in my humble opinion failed. The Narrator did an ok job with trying to build up suspense again i don't think this Author is for me .
