About this listen
‘Fresh, fun and fabulous! Flappy certainly kept me entertained!’ Heidi Swain, Sunday Times bestselling author
Underneath her graceful exterior lies a passion nobody knew about, least of all Flappy herself…
Flappy Scott-Booth is the self-appointed queen bee of Badley Compton, a picturesque Devon village. While her husband Kenneth spends his days on the golf course, she is busy overseeing her beautiful house and gardens, and organising unforgettable events, surrounded by friends who hang on to her every word.
Her life is a reflection of herself – impossibly perfect.
Until the day that Hedda Harvey-Smith and her husband Charles move into the village. Into an even grander home than hers. Taking the front seat on the social scene, quite literally.
That simply will not do.
Flappy is determined to show Hedda how things are done here in Badley Compton. But then she looks into Charles’s beautiful green eyes. And suddenly, her focus is elsewhere. She is only human, after all…

Fun and light-hearted, but a little simplistic
An enjoyable and fun read, which you can skip through without any effort and it's really quite enjoyable. However, my only gripe was that it felt a bit much ado about nothing come the end. But likeable characters, and really well read! Did make me chuckle on many occasions throughout.

A poor copy of E. F. Benson’s Lucia stories
I adore the Mapp and Lucia novels, and recognised this and its follow-on as direct cribs of E F Benson. I’m not sure how anyone gets away with such downright copying of ideas and still gets to put their own name on it. The story was passable but not a patch on the original from which it is apparently derived. Such lack of originality is disappointing - the Mapp and Lucia novels do not need updating or improving in any way. We have an obvious Lucia in Flappy, she seeks a guru to help her meditate, she is “queen” of her small town, she sprinkles her speech with Italian words but cannot speak the language - so on and so forth. Shame.

A bit disappointing
I usually love this author’s work, and especially loved the story of Gracie. However, I found this sequel predictable and repetitive. ‘If there was one thing Flappy did/knew’ etc. seemed to crop up on every page! It passed the time during lockdown though.

Not the usual Santa Montifiore
If you usually really on SMF for well researched stories that you get lost in then this will disappoint.
Whilst it is a lovely story it is like it was written on a Friday when there was an exciting weekend to be getting on with and she just needed to knock it out to fulfill a quota. Very pleased it was included in the subscription as I would not have spent more money on it.
Very predictable and frustrating

Loved it
Such a lighthearted little story... beautifully read by Juliet Stevenson. If you want highbrow then steer clear but if you want a bit of lighthearted froth then you’ll love it.....
