Summary

Pip Simmonds is the twinkiest twink in London. He’s loud, proud, and packed to the brim with sass. But when he’s laid low by illness, even his hotpants lose their sparkle and his worried boss sends him to the South of France to recuperate in his holiday home.

Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat is beautiful, and the periwinkle-blue villa is luxurious, but the real draw for Pip is the villa’s other resident—his boss’s younger brother, Olivier Durand.

Olivier owns a perfume empire and has spent his whole life running from any other form of commitment. He’s worldly, carefree, wild, and the perfect choice for a holiday fling.

Drawn together by proximity, the two men become lovers and friends and then something more. Something special. But will their special bond hold true after summer’s end, when they both must return to their real lives?

This is the second book in the bestselling Model Agency series, but it can be listened to as a standalone.

Joel is fantastic!

Just finished this, the book was lovely, the audible is even better. Joel Leslie does Pip and Olivier proud.
Talk about kindred spirits! I don't think I've ever come across two MCs who are as well matched as these two! I felt that to bring Pip and Olivier to life was a labour of love for Lily, it was obvious that they were special to her. You can tell this by the care and attention she gives to both characters, from when they originally met, to when they fatefully come together once again in France. The ending in the airport is fecking epic, to quote Pip and Ruby 😂

Perfection 👌

As expected - just brilliant, as always from Lily Morton.

This is Pip and Olivier’s book - it certainly doesn’t disappoint ❤️

It is sweet, heartfelt, snarky, sassy and the humour is sublime as only Lily Morton does.

There are previous characters in the story, Jonas, Dean, Ruby (absolutely hysterical, especially the hair clippers!!!) Still cackling now! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Excellently narrated as always by Joel Leslie - he amazes me with his ability to understand these characters, their accents and weave and wield the listener to thoroughly enjoy Lily’s writing and story - especially the places, making you believe you’re actually in these places ❤️

Another ‘out of the park’ book for Lily!

I cannot recommend this book enough - although a standalone, I highly recommend you read/listen to Mixed Messages series and follow the Lilyverse throughout - you certainly won’t be disappointed!!

Definitely a 5 🌟 listen for me ❤️🥰

Beautiful romance, beautiful imagery

I gotta say that I enjoyed this ALOT!!!

5 stars all around!

Joel Leslie is an amazing narrator when it comes to contemporary stories (I don't have the same experience with his narrations in paranormal/fantasy ones) and he was fantastic here.

Although I was taken aback by the way the word "migraine" was pronounced. I always say it as "maɪ-" (as in eye) and not "mee-" (as in do re mi). Oh well being bilingual in English means that my English is an amalgamation monstrosity of British and American English.

Back to the story, I truthfully enjoyed Pip's vividness and along with Olivier's wonderment and wickedness this was a beautiful romance!

Wonderful MCs, lots of snark and banter balanced perfectly with everyday little moments of happiness and contentment, beautiful imagery of the South of France, lovely side characters and cameos of favorites, hints of pairings to come and a romance for the ages with 2 MCs that had incredible chemistry and complemented each other in the best of ways!!!

Fancy

I haven't read or listened to the first book in the Moden Agency series, but that did not affect my enjoyment of French Fancy at all.

Firstly, I am all about Joel, so listening to this one was a no brainer. I have listened to many of Joel and Lily's collabs, so I knew it was going to be good.

Pip and Olivier's story, just sigh. Yes, we have all seen it before. Was it a bit predictable? Sure. Was the obscene wealth a bit ick? Yeah, a bit. And the villain was a bit eyeroll worthy.

It makes it sound like I didn't like it, doesn't it?

But Leslie's telling of the story just had me enjoying it. Morton's books are ones that I pick up on and off every year, more often than not listening to a Joel Leslie narration.

A bit of flirty fun, this was a fine way to spend a car ride.

Five amazing stars!

I adored this book when I read it with my eyes in August of 2023. I knew then that the only thing that could make me like this book more would be to listen to Joel Leslie perform the audiobook. Once again, he has done a fantastic job performing Lily Morton's words. Below is what I wrote when I read the book with my eyes.

Original review:
I haven’t laughed so much in a long time while reading a book. French Fancy is an amazing story. I started laughing before the end of the first page. I laughed so loud that my husband asked me what was so funny and I had to read it out loud to him – and then he laughed.

Lily Morton has the amazing ability to make me LOL one minute and practically sob the next. The story is told in first person POV with Pip having control of the majority of the chapters but we start hearing from Olivier around chapter eleven and then he keeps popping up from time-to-time.

Pip is a delightful character. We met him in The Sunny Side but you can absolutely read this as a standalone story. He has been very ill, and his recovery is going slowly, so his wealthy boss sends him to his villa in the South of France to recover. Pip is supposed to have the place to himself but his boss’s brother, Olivier, shows up unexpectedly. They hit it off and agree to a sex only relationship because neither of them wants anything long-term.

I marked no less than 10 places where I LOL’d and I normally don’t mark much of anything when I read. I’m going to quote one short passage, which I’m sure is much funnier when read in context, but it made me smile so hard. The scene is Pip getting off of a bus; he’s moving slowly because he’s still feeling poorly:

“You getting off at any point today?” the driver asks grumpily.
I come up next to him and pause. “That’s a very personal question to ask a young man. How do you know I’m not having a day of abstinence?”

There is so much more I could say about this story, like how Olivier needs to get his head out of his a$$ and like how awful Olivier’s mother is, but I really just want to say READ THIS BOOK, you won’t be sorry. It’s a nice long story that never drags a bit; Lily’s writing is rich and descriptive and a pleasure to read. Her fans will enjoy getting glimpses of characters from other of her stories but like I said, this one easily reads as a standalone.

There is a nice long epilogue set one year after the end of the story and both Pip and Olivier get to tell their part and I thought it was fantastic.

A copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author or narrator.
