About this listen
The near future. Earth has been invaded by the L'zuhl, an aggressive, imperialistic alien race who have laid waste to the galaxy for centuries. The few human survivors have been evacuated to the farthest reaches of space to rebuild and fight back against the L'zuhl onslaught.
There, on the distant planet of Palangonia, in a large, walled compound that houses the new human colony, lives the former Newcastle United and England boss Kevin Keegan, now manager of Palangonia FC.
As the war rages, Keegan would love it if he could focus on the most important thing - picking up three points on Saturday against the neighboring nebula - but with whispers of a L'zuhl spy on the loose in the compound, it falls to Keegan himself to find the culprit before it's too late....

Entertaining yarn loved the football references!
Really enjoyed this book. Keegan, transported to another planet as earth is evacuated when evil lizard aliens invade, is recruited to manage the local football team to play in the galactic league. What Richard Madely does in response to this invasion frankly should come as no surprise. Keegan, who comes accros as a well meaning man, assisted by Gerry Francis, then goes on to a number of adventures.. Accompanied by his many anecdotes about the footballers he managed and knows this is a story full of knowing laughs. Plus chuck in an android who is like a Marvin from hitchhikers but less manic .....what's not to like.

A gentle smile of a book
I dowloaded this because I follow the author's amusing Twitter accounts and I'm glad I did. The story flows from the conceit that Kevin Keegan is an intergalactic football manger who is caught up in a space opera involving a spy, alien killer beasts and worries about an underperforming centre-forward. It is silly and slight, but that is the whole point because of the other thing it is - very funny.
Barely a paragraph goes past without a lovely joke about 90s pop culture/minor footballers, so if you remember the early days of the Premier league this will probably be right up your alley. There is one splendidly torturous pun involving two full backs that is worth the price on its own.
The narrator is very good too, I would've "loved it" if it was the actual Kevin Keegan reading, but I guess that was never going to be possible. Gildart Jackson does a great job, sounding like a northern Captain Mainwaring, injecting just the right amount of pompous indignation into the character as he navigates the surrounding chaos that he has invariably caused himself.
If you are in market for a book that puts a smile on you face all the time you are listening and you can remember who Gerry Francis is (and what his hair looked like) then I suggest you blow a credit on this.

Very Humourous
Loved every moment of this homage to Kevin Keegan, I hope he's read it with a smile. Now the author has created this universe how about using Roy Kean as your next target?
