About this listen
From the internationally bestselling and prize-winning author of The Song of Achilles and Circe, an enchanting short story that boldly reimagines the myth of Galatea and Pygmalion.
In Ancient Greece, a skilled marble sculptor has been blessed by a goddess who has given his masterpiece – the most beautiful woman the town has ever seen – the gift of life. Now his wife, he expects Galatea to please him, to be obedience and humility personified. But she has desires of her own, and yearns for independence.
In a desperate bid by her obsessive husband to keep her under control, she is locked away under the constant supervision of doctors and nurses. But with a daughter to rescue, she is determined to break free, whatever the cost...

Unique and powerful read.
My goodness. Right from the start I realised this was something different. The author explains her journey with this story at the very end and that was my favorite part. A terrifying and incredible insight covering co-dependency, mental health, erotomania, expectation and relational dysfunction. The author asks so many needed questions about the human condition and true nature of love.

45 mins - not worth 1 credit
This is a nice short story and I’m sure it’s not the author’s fault, but to charge 1 credit for 45 minutes worth of content is crazy. Audible should have included it in a membership, or it should have been released with some other short stories. 45 minutes is the length of some books’ chapters.
