Summary

main story still good but space battle ruined it
all books before this one were captivating. this is the first one with a proper space battle and it's bad.. couldn't wait for it to finish. in the vastness of space, fleets fight as if they're in 2D with kindergarten physics. strategy makes no sense either.. as if all those admirals are dumb goats itching to slam their heads together

Outstanding. Game of thrones meets star wars
book 1 set the scene and though the jumping in story time line was challenging initially it worked and came together in book 2. can't wait to listen to book 3 now. as ever narration was excellent and made this book come to life - thank you R.C.

Le Caree in space
Kill Team:
Much is said about the influence of Star Wars on Galaxy 's Edge, some call it a rip off and there are some very open references. I prefer to call it 'Star Wars for adults' as its far far better written than anything from that stable.
Kill Team, however, is a homage to John Le Caree's legendary nivels and to A Perfect Spy in particular, written from the perspective of the protagonist. 'Tom' is Magnus Pym, the conflicted good man captured in a Web of awfulness for his country. 'The Carnival' , The Republic's Nether Ops secret service is a direct copy of 'The Circus ', MI6 in Le Caree's novels and 'X' is of course, George Smiley. What's interesting about Kill Team is the espionage chapters are written in a style that demonstrates that Anspach is a superb writer, at points I thought I was reading Le Caree himself. But throughout the novel, Anspach weaves a special forces action story out of the top drawer of Clancy and McNab.
10/10.
This series is a long way beyond the sci fi pulp fiction it is marketed as.

Do battle on the edge!
A long time ago in another galaxy far far away....I really enjoyed this story but can understand fans reviews that it is very similar to Star Wars. I try to think of it as another galaxy or a Multiverse scenario. I look forward to the next Episode in the series. It can hop around alot, it is a big galaxy and there's so much action taking place within the battles, it's sometimes a bit hard to keep track of what's going on, with who, where and when. R.C Bray is brilliant as always.

overall a bit better than 1
i want these to be good but im struggling book 3 was really good few people seem to not like the "you are tom" section but i enjoyded it only down fall is that it was too short and fairly basic
the story with chunn and wraith is made a lot clearer and you need this book i think to make any sense of part 1
the second half was just ok the battle was descriptive but some sequences were so short they were barely worth mentioning, the jumping around in time made it hard to follow who was winning and even harder to care.
it read more like a bullet point synopsis of a history book that gave you the gist but not much else.
im continuing on but i have to say with all the hype around this series i thought it would be better

Great but a bit of a story rip off
A good listen for all sci fi battle fans but the whole series is starting to be a little too much of a star wars rip off. I kind of like that this is what star wars should/could have been but a rip off none the less. Even some of the names are just rip offs but ever so slightly tweaked ie. Tri fighter instead of Tie fighter etc
Don't get me wrong though, it's still good and plenty of scope for the future story. Will continue on to the next one.
Narrated brilliantly by R.C Bray as always.

Confusing
After the first book I assumed this second one would pick from where the last one finished. Silly me. I almost put it down as I found the first few chapters confusing and I didn't quite get where this second book was going. However, I got there in the end.
The second half of the book really took off and it roller coasted all the way to the end with action coming fast and furiously.
One thing worries me, though; space operas always have good guys and bad guys. What happens when all the guys are bad? Now there's food for thought.

Mark 'em, load 'em and get ready to chew 'em up.
Such fantastic value for a credit: two full and excellent novels, both standalone but with interconnected aspects between these and the previous stories. Both are action packed, but the second, in particular, never stops as space battle rages through the galaxy and the reader is carried from ship to ship, sides both claiming the right to victory when seen through the eyes of the players. This reader enjoys military action but usually only in proportion to a non action ongoing story. But this book was different : so well written, it held attention from the first pages to the ending. The reader is swirled through the desperate engagements, political deceptions, and hopes and fears of the various protagonists, sympathies tugged from one to another. Phenomenal.
The preceding story is more planet bound, face to face action as the few survivors of Victory company following the disaster that was Kubbar, are recruited to Black Ops, and we are introduced to the whisper of a rumour that was Nether Ops, and a man named Tom.
The characterisations are excellent, with real life, three dimensional people living, dying, laughing, remembering, hurting, fighting and bleeding across the pages. Narrator, A.C.Bray brings everything even more to life with his excellent performance, with well modulated and paced text reading and individually appropriate voices for every protagonist. The perfect symbiosis of narrator and authors' text.
It is for stories like this, there should be an extra super star rating. And for anyone who enjoys intelligent and immaginative military space opera, this is a must read book.
