Summary
A killing like no other.
A killer more twisted than he’s ever seen before.
A case that will test him to the limit.
Has Robert Hunter finally met his match?
‘Do you believe the Devil exists, Detective?’ the officer at the end of the line asks. ‘Because if you don’t... I’m sure you will once you get here.’
Robert Hunter is called to the most vicious crime scene he has ever attended. It is made even more disturbing when the autopsy reveals a poem, left by the killer, inside the body of their victim.
Soon, another body is found. The methods and signature of the murder differs, but the level of violence used suggests that the same person is behind both crimes. Hunter’s fears are confirmed when a second part of the poem is found.
But this discovery does more than just link the two killings—it suggests that this is the work of a serial murderer.
With no forensic evidence to go on, Robert Hunter must catch the most disciplined and systematic killer that he has ever encountered, someone who thrives on the victims' fear, and to whom death is a lesson that needs to be taught.
From #1 Sunday Times and multi-million copy bestselling author, Chris Carter, comes the most compelling and ruthless Robert Hunter thriller yet.

Love all Chris Carter books, as thrilling as I hoped it would and hope there's more to come

Brilliant
Decent story, and very immersive. Some glitches on the audio (like the narrator going in and out of an “on the phone” effect randomly) but the performance itself was awesome.
Highly recommended

Another great team
Carter’s duo Hunter and Garcia are back absolutely love this series. The details of the murder scenes takes you there. The narrator is exactly how I imagine hunter to be as well as Garcia. My only disappointment is I finished the book so quick as I just could not stop binge listening. Would love these books to be on the big screen although I doubt that they could do the books justice thanks for another great thrill ride.

GRIPPING from start to finish
I started this as I did with every Chris Carter book. Curious, intrigued and excited ( for want of a better word) and I wasn’t disappointed.
Yet again amazing. I was caught out and didn’t know which way it would go and then my mind would be thrust into a complete 360* turn and I was left wondering how it happened.
Every book is different yet the same.
Absolutely loved this book.
I would recommend anyone new to Chris Carter to start at the beginning, however, every book is new.
I cannot wait to hear the next one.
Judd is fabulous. Again
Thankyou

Brilliant
loved it, he's my favourite author
first time I've used audible for his books, thought I wouldn't enjoy it the same as actually reading it, but it was great and the story didn't disappoint me, never does

Good as usual
As always, a reliably good and gory yarn. Perhaps a bit too long and slowly narrated, but setting speed to 1.25 did help.

Will have to twiddle my thumbs now….
I had this on order as soon as I knew it would be released and it’s brilliant! If you’ve followed the series you will know our hero’s and their back stories if not go back to the beginning!
So there’s a serial killer on the loose and they have some cracking methods of bopping off their victims. Again Hunter and Garcia have to solve the case. Lots of blood, gore, red herrings and twists… all the usual Carter ingredients. I didn’t see the big reveal or smell the bad egg which is a good thing.
So now I’m twiddling my thumbs till number 13 comes out which I hope is soon…. Tumbleweed blows past…

Another great outing with Hunter and Garcia
This may sound odd, but when an author can make you feel a little queasy describing the level of violence and brutality that was done to the victims, he’s got it pretty much nailed. It’s called the UVC unit for a reason.
Whilst the offender in this story is clearly twisted, and mental, their motives are strangely understandable. Hmmm…
