Summary

Emma Storey is 32, trying to balance her love life, friends, and work. She has been in a relationship with Chris for two years and is eagerly anticipating his proposal over a romantic meal. But the proposal doesn't go quite to plan, and Emma's world is flipped upside down. To make matters worse, Emma’s best friend, Sophie, is full of the joys of a new relationship with her new man, Connor.

Weeks later, Emma is still feeling sorry for herself, so her two work friends, Jenny and Lola, take her out for an evening of tequila. There, she meets a cute guy at the bar, who introduces himself as Johnny. He easily charms a drunken Emma back to his apartment for "coffee", but this proves to have devastating consequences as Johnny turns out to be more than Emma bargained for.

A chance meeting with a handsome stranger makes Emma realize true love may be possible after all. But she is then left to consider whether to keep her secret or risk losing everything.

Enthralling!

'Girl, Conflicted' intelligently conveys the transient nature of happiness. In addition, the conflicting desires of the human condition. On the periphery, it's a witty introspective memoir of a woman grappling with life, on life's complex terms. However, behind the self-deprecating humor lies an emotive darkness and psychological depth. The main character (Emma) authentically depicts our inner critical voice and the self-defeating comparisons we make. So, what am I doing reading 'Chic lit'? An over-ambitious attempt to gain helpful insight into the female psyche? Or perhaps I'm just too comfortable and secure in my own obvious masculinity, that I dare indulge? Whatever the case, I'm delighted I did. In this instance, motives matter not. I highly recommend this most riveting and relatable read. Sasha Lane (Author) has done a magnificent job! Absolutely engaging from beginning to end.
