Summary

The author of the Sunday Times best-selling Outlander series returns with a brand new novel in the epic tale.

The past may seem the safest place to be...but it is the most dangerous time to be alive....

Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall were torn apart by the Jacobite Rising in 1743, and it took them 20 years to find each other again. Now the American Revolution threatens to do the same.

It is 1779 and Claire and Jamie are at last reunited with their daughter, Brianna, her husband Roger and their children on Fraser's Ridge. Having the family together is a dream the Frasers had thought impossible.

Yet even in the North Carolina backcountry, the effects of war are being felt. Tensions in the Colonies are great and local feelings run hot enough to boil Hell's tea-kettle. Jamie knows loyalties among his tenants are split and it won't be long until the war is on his doorstep.

Brianna and Roger have their own worry: that the dangers that provoked their escape from the 20th century might catch up to them. Sometimes they question whether risking the perils of the 1700s - among them disease, starvation and an impending war - was indeed the safer choice for their family.

Not so far away, young William Ransom is still coming to terms with the discovery of his true father's identity - and thus his own - and Lord John Grey has reconciliations to make, and dangers to meet...on his son's behalf and his own. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War creeps ever closer to Fraser's Ridge. And with the family finally together, Jamie and Claire have more at stake than ever before.

The Frasers of the Ridge are back!

This long awaited book does not disappoint. The story is gripping and as usual Davina Porter is exceptional.

Oh Diana! You are so good!

Another fantastic book charting the adventures and misadventures of the delightful Fraser clan. Completely binge-read the audiobook. Fantastic narration and characterisation, again. Can’t wait for book 10!

The most amazingly well constructed series

I have enjoyed all the books in the series, what an author, I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the last one.

Compulsive listening, totally gripping

This book had been long awaiting. It was well and truly worth the wait. Listening to narrator Davina Porter deliver her wonderful spell binding way of delivering this wonderful book is captivating. The story, the contents and the way the reader (listeners) are pulled into this book is an obsession that Outlander readers are fully aware of. I have loved each book and for me this one has surpassed my expectations. When it came to the end, I nearly dropped to my knees in disbelief. Please oh please Diana, don't make us wait as long for the next one, my heart can not stand it. How many authors get their followers in this state. Highly recommended this first class book 9. 10 out of 10 stars from me

Didn’t want it to end

At first I struggled with the narrator’s rendition of certain characters as over the years I’ve assumed their voices in my own mind. However, the narrator’s interpretation of each grew on me and I was hooked! Therein the beauty of books and the power they hold in capturing the imagine and whisking you away into a different world. The story is wonderful, the characters and imagery most powerful. Cant wait for the next instalment although I also don’t wish the series to end as I’ve grown such a deep fondness for all the Frasers, their extended family and friends. What to listen to until then is now my dilemma.

Disappointed

Despite numerous pages the storyline was weak and I was left disappointed. Obviously another tomb in the pipeline and I look forward to developments.

Extraordinary!

These stories are an incredible blend of; intriguingly moreish characters, an exploration of the depths of love, an element of fantasy and sci-fi time travel, an in depth love and knowledge of nature and botany, all set against a backdrop of genuine, fascinating and chilling historical events that span the oceans.
