Summary
Listed number one in women's fantasy fiction in Kindle.
One day, I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real. The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter-than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert.
I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date. At 41, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me.
When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it. I need the money more than I care about my sanity.
It’s dangerous. I have to embrace the magic and dark of my past. And I need Advil to keep me going.
But those who’d hold me back better sit up and take notice because a new woman is in town, and she’s not about to be counted out by anyone. Even if she does groan when she rolls out of bed in the morning.
A paranormal women's fiction with a bit of class and a lot of sass for anyone who feels like age is just a number!

Frank and bold - this book is lol funny
I enjoyed Shannon's write on a strong lead character who's not in her teens or early 20's. This book made me lol - the humour was on point. A good read funny and entertaining and knew I would like it from the start. My only critique is audible - can we please record the other books - was left in a place where it would be good to know what happens next!

Excellent book
Love the book. What a ride, the hits keep coming. Such a change for our hero to be 40 something and in the thick of it. Have to say I prefer dealing with adults.

Loved it.
I have read the book before but thought I'd give the audio version a go. I really enjoyed it, I felt immersed in it and totally absorbed by it. Will try the rest of the series in audiobook form now!

Amazingly hilarious PWF start of series
Breena's story was ducking amazing. so hilarious, while also being full of magic, action and a FMC over 40 all out of ducks to give. I cannot wait to find out what happens to Breena next.

Narrator did an excellent job
I own many kindle and audible books by this author and have never found one lacking, this one has joined my extensive list.
The narrator did a really good job of the various voices and brought the story to life.
The story was everything I’ve come to expect from this author, I enjoyed it so much that I immediately bought the 2nd book of the series in kindle, but i’ll also be getting the audible version as soon as it’s released, because I enjoyed listening to it so much, I’m really hoping it’s the same narrator.
Go on treat yourself, I can’t imagine you being disappointed either by the story or the narrator.

40+ is A ++
I loved it, it was refreshing to hear a story where the demon slaying hero was my age, and not some young fit girly. It was funny, exciting and intriguing. If you like Buffy, or true blood, Anita Blake this is for you.

Fantastic new urban fantasy series from S.Mayer!
So refreshing to have the main character be a little bit older than other heroines in urban fantasy books. Being in my mid 30's it was nice to be able to relate to some life experiences.
I'm from England and only visited Florida, but the descriptions were so good I could picture the scene in my head. Throw in a little bit of mythology, paranormal, a maniac ex and here we have a great book!
The narrator brought the book to life! lovely voice, easy to distinguish characters and expressive. I certainly laughed out loud a few times earning me funny looks during my lunch break at the hospital...
I'm really looking forward to reading/listening to the rest of the rest of the series. Highly recommend.

So good I bought the rest of the series!!!
Great to find a story for forty somthings ! Well written and funny.... totally sympathise with the stairs !! I enjoyed book 1 so much I bought the rest of the series and they all fitted together cohesively, the dry sense of humour continued and I enjoyed them all. Shame there is only 4 !
