About this listen
Everett: There are a ton of reasons why falling for my tiny, adorkable best friend is a terrible idea - starting with the body in my trunk.
I have other reasons - he still mourns his late husband. I’m way older, he’s a foot shorter, my tattoo shop is a front, he’s an assistant professor at UT.
Still, I can’t help but think we’d be perfect for each other if I didn’t kill people (very, very bad people) for a living.
Rafi: How the f--k did I not realize how hot my best friend is? Yeah, grief, or whatever, but were my eyes not working?
Silver fox, check. Tattooed hotness, check. Cuddles with me on Monday nights while we watch Australian melodramas, check. Says he’s not a good person but totally is, check.
New goal: Get Everett to stop looking at me like a grieving widower and start seeing me as someone he’d like to pin against the wall.
Now, if I only knew what was behind the door marked Portal to Nowhere...
Hard Target is a mercenary MM romance set in Austin and the Texas Hill Country. It features tattooed hotties, adorably complicated twinks, best friend antics, an illegally confiscated vineyard, and a team of killer do-gooders.
This is the first book in the Wrecked: Guardians series. Several characters from my series about a gym for combat vets, Wrecked, cross over in this series. While you don't need to listen to the Wrecked books to enjoy the slightly more nefarious Guardians, lots of people end up wanting all the juicy backstories.

Daniels is a great choice to narrate Fox's fabulou
I was so excited when I learned that Wrecked: Guardians book #1 was available in audio and narrator Zane Daniels did not disappoint. When you hear Rafi’s voice....G’ah!! Everett is also much the way I pictured him in my head upon reading the print version of Hard Target.
Fox’s amazing story translated very well to audio. As I said in my initial review I’d the print version, “As usual, Fox shines in developing emotionally complex characters and in the use of colourful banter to advance the plot. She’s not afraid to turn typical assumptions on their head and doesn’t shy away from poking fun at the MCs through their closest friends/found family.” This joking back and forth was even MORE fun to listen to than it was to read! This group of characters shoes away from nothing!
Daniels did a fantastic job of developing richly nuanced voice profiles for each of the characters. I’m hooked on this series all over again

Grief and Recovery.
MM, Best Friends to Lovers, Mercenary, Action, Romance. The first book in the series and a spin off series that can be enjoyed even if the Wrecked series has not been enjoyed first. A fast moving plot with mystery, intrigue, danger, angst, grief, new love, steam and friendships. With twists and turns and tear inducing moments galore, lots of great characters some of whom feature in the Wrecked series. Guaranteed HEA.

Terrific performance by Zane Daniels
Kelly Fox really knows how to put a well crafted book together.
Fantastic layered main characters complimented by interesting side characters, perfect pacing to keep you listening, humour, heat and lots of feels - happy tears, sad tears, laughing hard tears.
Add in some drama, action, angsty bits, bad guys doing bad things, good guys getting even with said bad guys and you have a wonderful start to the Guardians series.
Rafi is an adorable nerd with very poor fashion choices, who’s grieving for his late husband and his friend Everett is the tattooed silver fox with a huge heart, who just so happens to kill bad people.
Their chemistry is undeniable but they take some time before jumping from friends to lovers. Nothing stops them when they make that jump and the heat level turns all the way up to sizzling. Of course they need to overcome some obstacles but do find their way to a HEA.
Zane Daniels gives a wonderful performance, capturing all the characters tones, cadence and accents throughout the entire audio making it very easy, engaging and enjoyable to listen to.

I enjoyed this first book!
Action from the first chapter! On many fronts, so to speak. And I like it!
Zane Daniels makes an awesome job with the characters’ voices and the storytelling!
It is a spin-off, but the original series isn’t out in audio so I don’t know the background. I guess it’s not necessary but It feels like some of the side characters are presented as I should know them. It makes me curious and I would love to get to know them too.

Such a brilliant performance!
Story: A spin - off from the Wrecked series, the Guardians to deliver just as much fun, if not more! Kelly Fox did an awesome job with this vigilante group!
Everett's and Rafi's story was amazingly emotional, as they both heal and heal each other after losing their loved ones. I cried some, I laughed much more and had a gereat time with this book!
Narration: Amazing performance! Easily recognisable voices and easy to follow narration. Plus all the emotions reflected just spot on! Zane Daniels is a new to me narrator, but I look forward to listening to much more of his work!

Zane Daniels = Gifted Narrator
🥳The audio is where all the magic happened!! Zane Daniels' shifted seamlessly between characters and through their personalities - sassy, serious, prankster, commanding etc. His transitions with the different characters' respective timbre, pitch and emotion also made the banter ring true to life. No question that Zane elevated the story by tapping into the vibe and energy of the group dynamics. ZD's narration for quiet or intense moments was very compelling and I particularly liked when Rafi and Everett were in the shooting range. Then Zane blessed us with Chapter 31!! His vocals and pacing brought out three distinct mood shifts – lust, love, shock - and his performance was flawless! Zane Daniels is gifted. That is all.
📚 Rafi finally owned his teeny-weeny fashionista self while Everett just held on to Rafi's booty shorts! Pity Rafi’s incessant waterworks shamed any self-respecting toddler. Just as well that I loved Everett and the found family dynamics more.
