Summary
Three women. One will sacrifice her life to stop him. One is his next victim. One must try to put him behind bars. Holly Maguire takes a taxi to a clifftop location. She is determined to make things right. Then the car goes over the edge of the cliff. As Holly falls to her death, she tightens her grip on a rucksack. She will give her life to bring him down.
Kelly Dale wakes up to her first day without her mother. Her mum passed away late the previous night after losing a battle with cancer. Kelly receives a text from Holly, sent just before the accident and rushes to the clifftop. She is too late. Kelly has lost her mother and girlfriend in the space of a few hours. Now she must face her own battle to stay alive. He will kill Kelly next. He wants to live-stream her murder.
Detective Maddie Ives is called out to inspect the wrecked vehicle. She is under pressure to write it off as a murder-suicide or a terrible accident. Holly was a known sex worker and the running theory is that she may have been engaged in activity with the taxi driver when it rolled over the side. Maddie doesn’t buy it. Holly’s rucksack contains seemingly random and worthless items, but Maddie quickly finds numerous links to a crime boss. Maddie must stop a powerful man who exploits and control women. It’s a tense and thrilling ride as the net closes in. But time is running out to save Kelly.

Another good Maddie Ives tale .
Really enjoyed this book. It was a difficult listen in some places due to the content . TRIGGER warning for those who may have experienced sexual violence and rape. I found myself getting more and more aggy with the lead protagonist in this . I was very happy when he finally got taken down by Ives and the gang! Look forward to the next one. Narration was a bit better for Harry’s voice in this one .

Thoroughly enjoyable.
It's always great to read a book that mentions the area in which you live. I'm not sure why, maybe it feels more relatable.
Maddie Ives is growing on me, I love how Gallagher is endearing the reader with her abilities and personality.
It is a great tale that takes you on a journey of brutality and misogyny.
Well written.
I would recommend.

Back to his best.
After a couple of books where the plotting was bordering on the silly, the author is back on track with this one.
Great procedural with good dialogue and a well paced story.
The only thing letting it down is a couple of slightly “cartoony” characterisations (the author clearly doesn’t like lawyers 😂).
Looking forward to the next one.

Once again brilliant !
I’ve been engrossed in this series since discovering it.
To the point of not listening to a long awaited ore order title in order to listen to more of Maddie Ives !

Decent story
I enjoyed the story and thought the characters were well-written, however, there wasn't enough distinction in the narration, between characters, so it was easy to confuse who was speaking when.

Another Thrilling Book
I am really enjoying the combination duo of Maddie Ives and Harry Blaker. She is sparky and feisty and he is gruff, bad tempered and very direct.
This instalment starts with a horrifying scene of a car going over a cliff. What is the reason? The car contains secrets in the form of a rucksack that is held tightly against one of the victims in the car.
Meanwhile Holly has lost her Mum, unaware about the additional tragedy that lies ahead.
This case is picked up by Maddie, to others it looks like a open and shut case. Maddie feels there is more to it, what we end up with is one person sacrificing their life, one who fights for her life and the other fighting to make a case, as Maddie unpicks the web of clues left in the rucksack and other clues along the way, Harry gets on board and the more they find out about the case the worse it gets. They uncover things that turn your stomach and the main man behind it all operates by fear holding onto the fact he is untouchable. Now is he? Will Maddie and Harry crack the case before it’s too late….

Narration spoilt it for me.
As I’m my review title the narration was awful at times. The male voices in particular and at times it did sound like she was reading a child’s book. The story was quite good although a bit brutal at times and I did drift off a couple of times and had to skip back.

Not for me
Very tedious gave up, after a 3 hrs horrible characters just seemed to be going round in circles, when I saw there was 5 hrs left, couldn’t face more . Narrator was ok though
