About this listen

A perfect mother. A loving daughter. A secret that could destroy them both.

When I walk into my small family home after a long day at work, I find my mother in the living room, playing happily with my precious baby son, and my heart begins to race.

I’ve imagined this moment a thousand times. Who wouldn’t want their mother to meet their first grandchild? But I haven’t seen my mother for years, and there’s a good reason….

My son’s laughter and my husband’s tired eyes convince me to let her stay–give her another chance–and soon I start to soften. She’s so good with my little boy, and we appreciate the extra pair of hands.

But then one terrible night, I have to make a call no mother wants to make. As I clutch my boy going limp in my arms, waiting for the ambulance, I have to ask if I was wrong to trust my mother, or if I’ve misunderstood everything entirely…

Fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl, and The Wife will absolutely love this gripping and addictive thriller. Her First Child will have you hooked from the start!

a real who done it

thoroughly enjoyed this book, easy reading but gripping because it really kept you guessing as to who was good/evil, trustworthy/untrustworthy, sane/troubled etc and most of all just who was doing what to who all the way through. Again the narrator did it well.

Gripping? it is not

I persevered with this book purely so I could give an honest opinion. There's no doubt it is well narrated but the story is slow and uneventful. It's the usual, so often used, mix of formulaic psychology and dishonesty never quite getting to unputdownable. I found the repeated 'I can't possibly tell my husband this' and the persistent suspicion annoying and tiresome. it's confusing in parts and the ending isn't worth waiting for. Sorry for the bad review, I've been reading Diane Chamberlain recently and this isn’t a patch on her woven storylines, hence the disappointment.

Confusing

I love the beginning and going through the story, the end was so confusing who did what? Who attacked Chloe? We never found out! An unbelievable twist!

Loved it but…

… I got a bit confused! Did we actually didn’t out who attacked Chloe? Also, i’m not sure if Eve had Munchausens syndrome which made Jacob poorly? Did I miss those answers!?

Good story and narrator. Not too many twists and turns to try and keep up with. Simple but gripping till the end

CONFUSING IN PLACES

Was really surprised when she said EPILOGUE. I’d found listening quite confusing in places and whenever I went back to the book I’d need to skip back a couple of chapters to grasp the storyline again. Tamsin, as always a pitch perfect narrator but the book was hard going, sorry!
