Summary

OCD-afflicted Griffin has just lost his first love, Theo, in a drowning accident. In an attempt to hold on to every piece of the past, he forges a friendship with Theo's last boyfriend, Jackson. When Jackson begins to exhibit signs of guilt, Griffin suspects he's hiding something and will stop at nothing to get to the truth about Theo's death. But as the grieving pair grows closer, listeners will question Griffin's own version of the truth - in terms of both what he's willing to hide and what true love means.

My first Adam Silvera.....

I'm giving 5 stars for the story and 4 stars for the narration cos the quality wasn't that good at times, very muffled, although I did like the narrator. There were tears, laughter [the scene with the condoms, Grif's dad and the awkward silences/embarrassment for all concerned in the shop made me hoot] AND I loved the fact that the author didn't give us a whitewashed version of the YA aspect of the story, and try to pretend that the boys weren't having sex when you knew damn well that they were [although not on page]. Both boys had faults and made mistakes....My first Adam Silvera - of course he ripped my heart out and then put it back together again very slowly. They Both Die at the End will be up shortly, again on audio and I can't wait for What If It's Us in October.

The emotional read makes a good book, even better!

One of my favourite titles as it is, HISTORY IS ALL YOU LEFT ME, just gets better with the Audible read, by Tom Picasso. The emotion is subtle and 'glum', adding to Griff's turmoil and grief at Theo's death.
A very brilliant read.
And an even better listen.

Excellent read (listen)

A wonderful, well written story.
I was pleasantly surprised by the way the events unfolded. I was sure, from early on, how I expected the story to end, but I was mistaken. I won't say more so not to spoil the story.

A beautiful but heartwrenching story

I downloaded this audiobook on a bit of a whim, but I am so glad I did. The story was lovely: of first loves, the complications of young love & finding your way through tragedy.

I found it particularly clever how teenage characters presented very adult feelings and reactions, but in a totally believable way. But the most impressive part of the writing was the switch between history & the present day. This was so well done that every time you returned to the present, you felt the gut-wrench that a principle character was dead (not a spoiler!), so, as a reader, you were walking the same journey as the narrating character.

Occasionally I felt the language was a little over dramatic, hence my 4 stars instead of 5, but this was few and far between. I've given 4 stars for the narrating only because there was moments where the narrator sometimes became much louder or more pronounced, which pulled you from a moment. But otherwise, Tom Picasso handled the narrating with aplomb.

Overall a great book - I often became so absorbed I nearly missed my bus stop!

Couldn’t put this down.

No words for how much I enjoyed this. This story had me both laughing and crying within a few lines. Such a hauntingly beautiful story, I knew I would enjoy this but didn’t expect it to have the impact it did. Well done Adam.

The reader for this audiobook is also very good. Not annoying at all like some, recommend⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A lovely story about loss

A story about love and trust and responsibilities that come with it. The character's dealing with loss is well written and believable. A lovely story.

Took me a while!

I started this multiple times over after binging the They Both Die At The End series.
As someone who suffers with OCD and compulsions, I related a lot with the themes but found it got just as repetivite as OCD which was maybe the point but I look for escapism in a novel.

Very touching

Could have cried a million times listening to this. The story is so well written and deals with so many human experiences from a realistic perspective. Honestly, my new favourite book.
