Hotel Portofino has been open for only a few weeks, but already the problems are mounting for its owner Bella Ainsworth. Her high-class guests are demanding and hard to please. And she’s being targeted by a scheming and corrupt local politician, who threatens to drag her into the red-hot cauldron of Mussolini’s Italy.
To make matters worse, her marriage is in trouble, and her children are still struggling to recover from the repercussions of the Great War. All eyes are on the arrival of a potential love match for her son Lucian, but events don’t go to plan, which will have far reaching consequences for the whole family.

Most enjoyable.
What a lovely beginning of (hopefully) a long series! Skillfully blending the beauty of the setting and the tension of the local political climate, "Hotel Portofino" is a charming and captivating portrayal of life in a small English hotel on the Italian Riviera in the 1920s. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Interesting read good story
I love Italy so was intrigued to read this. A good look at upstairs downstairs life and prejudice in the 20s

Trite and boring I’m afraid!
I really struggled to finish this book. The characters are shallow and undeveloped and the whole story lacks depth and complexity. The complete lack of descriptive text about such a staggeringly beautiful part of Italy means that it could have been called Hotel Wet Margate with very few changes to the story. Thoroughly disappointing for me
