A twist on the usual werewolf romance
There are plenty of paranormal books about werewolves that are part wolf and part man with the abilities of both. The assumption is that the human side is just as prevalent as the animal side. Their mates are human or werewolf too and their children the same.
But what happens if the werewolf mates with a wolf? This paranormal romance is just such a story. 15 year old Claire is orphaned and comes to live with her aunt and uncle. She finds an orphaned puppy and adopts it. Only the puppy is a devilhound, a wolf that can shift to human but retains his wolf consciousness throughout. This is their bittersweet story.
I enjoyed this unusual twist on the paranormal romance theme. It is short and rather well put together. Marla Braziel has managed to keep the story thick with detail and short in length, allowing each part of the story to be relevant to the plot. Kate Tyler brings Claire to life with all the dramatic flair of a teenage girl-woman. Overall enjoyable, sweet and a little sad.
