Summary

A recovery and growth handbook for anyone who feels empty - but doesn't know why.

Ten questions to ask yourself, right now:

  • Do you have a sense that something is wrong, but you don't know what it is?
  • Do you have a feeling that you are hollow inside, that you are empty or have a void within?
  • Do you react badly to rejection?
  • Do you often feel sad, unhappy or down for no obvious reason?
  • Would you describe yourself as highly sensitive?
  • Do you have problems with relationships and intimacy?
  • Do you engage in addictive behaviour - alcohol, drugs, gambling, shopping, food, sex, work, exercise?
  • Do you have low self-esteem or self-worth - are you not 'good enough'?
  • Do you have a sense of being numb to your feelings?
  • Do you rarely experience true joy and happiness?

If you have answered yes to most of these questions, there is a strong chance you have experienced emotional neglect or trauma as a child. An emotionally neglected child may struggle to form strong and secure attachments as an adult. They may feel hollow or empty, worthless (or overly important), judge themselves harshly and struggle with addictive tendencies - drinking, eating or exercising too much, for example. If this describes you, Heal Your Inner Child will change your life and give you back the love, compassion and authenticity you needed as a child and deserve as an adult.

Former heavy-drinker-turned-sobriety-coach Simon Chapple is - like you - a survivor of childhood trauma. His unique brand of straight-talking, practical yet reflective and relatable advice has helped thousands of people quit drinking, and he can help you now to move on from childhood emotional neglect to a place of happiness free from past trauma. How to Heal Your Inner Child is a stepped and safe approach to confronting your past, with space for reflective and supportive strategies that will help you to foster self-compassion and break free from the destructive behaviours that have blighted your life. Clinically endorsed and verified by a psychotherapist, this deeply personal, unflinchingly honest exploration is designed to unlock your own epiphany and support you as you journey to a happier, less troubled and more authentic self.

Excellent grasp on the subject

As someone who spends a lot of time reading this kind of thing for personal reasons, I can honestly say Simon has the best handle on this 'inner child' subject bar none. Exceptional writing, insight and grasp on such a difficult and complex issue that deserves credit for his dedication to this. Over the last 30 years I've read hundreds of this type of self-help book (if much different subjects). This is the only book that tackles this issue comprehensively and completely so I would strongly recommend it over anything else personally.
My only criticism is he over explains to such an extent the subject matter can get a little diluted and lost quite often and the intro is largely gloomy and prolonged whcih I don't think is necessary.
So it truth the book would be just as good half the size. Furthermore a short hand, bullet pointed quick reference guide would have been the perfect end to this for daily spit checking. It's the type of book you keep and refer back to multiple times and won't want to re read the whole thing.
Having said that Simon is excellent and I appluad his undoubted, passionate commitment and dedication to mental health. Great work Si...

Everyone should read this book!

This book is life changing! The author/narrator's voice is easy to listen to and I found it easy to relate to his story. I've managed to make many positive changes since I discovered this title and it has been incredibly helpful in my daily struggles with BPD, CPTSD, anxiety etc.

Awesome book, incredible insights. Thanks Simon 😊

I wish I found this book 10 years ago. It would have saved me from so much pain. Still, I am a better person because of this book. Great insights. Thought provoking. Wonderful writing. I appreciate Simons vulnerability, it’s helped me to be honest with myself. I enjoy going back to listen to snippets of this book to help me. Read structure too. All round great book.

Great Listen

I really enjoyed listening to this book and I love the way Simon tells his story. I never got bored of listening. ONLY NEGATIVE is that I am really disappointed that the workbook isn't available on Audible. Other Authors include a downloadable pdf so I don't understand why this isn't the case here. Pity really. Perhaps this can be rectified?

Interesting, long book but no workbook

Ok listen but the workbook that is referred to many times and presumably contains practical exercises is not included. So you get a long book but without the necessary workbook!

This is not make clear before you buy the book, and it is unclear if this is the fault of Audible or the author.

unhelpful and amateur

This book is empty. its incredibly repetitive, so repetitive its annoying and full of lists. It never gets anywhere except the usual things you can read online. He may understand helping alcoholics and helping people get sober but the title and sample are just misleading. When an author can refer to his home, work, his wife, son and multiple holidays it seems to me he has no answers for those who do not have these comforts supports nd distractions. A book for alcoholics maybe but as I'm not one it did not speak to what was advertised.
