Summary

From the number one best-selling author Peter James comes I Follow You, a nerve-shredding standalone thriller.

To the outside world, suave, charming and confident doctor Marcus Valentine has it all. A loving wife, three kids, a great job. But there’s something missing, there always has been...or rather, someone....

Driving to work one morning, his mind elsewhere and not on the road, he almost mows down a female jogger on a crossing. As she runs on, Marcus is transfixed. Infatuated. She is the spitting image of a girl he was crazy about in his teens. A girl he has never been able to get out of his mind.

Lynette had dumped him harshly. For years he has fantasied about seeing her again and rekindling their flame. Might that jogger possibly be her all these years later? Could this be the most incredible coincidence?

Despite all his attempts to resist, he is consumed by cravings for this woman. And when events take a tragically unexpected turn, his obsession threatens to destroy both their worlds. But still he won’t stop. Can’t stop.

Sound quality

Great story as ever from Peter James - I just found the sound quality dreadful- this seems to be happening more & more on audible pieces - not sure what happened on quality control - especially when this app is literally about the audio! I am an avid audible, I have tried every setting & reloading it to no avail Disappointed with sound - great story :-/

Tension

I stayed awake all night listening to this book as I had to know what happened. I don’t know if you could call tension, frustration and a reluctance to believe in total evil enjoyment but I would say it was very well executed. The narrator was new to me and was excellent. I gave the story four stars as I’m not sure how it has left me feeling.

Love love loved it !!

I have never read a book before where the intensity of the last few chapters gave me a stress headache. I was literally shouting out , so well written to ramp up the tension of the scene !!! Peter James is my favourite author. I’m so lucky he lives locally to me and once agreed to sign a book I was giving as a present to someone. Such a nice man ☺️

Really good story

This is the best stand-alone novel of the ones I've read by Peter James so far. A real page-turner. Not keen on the narrator though. Spoke so fast that my brain couldn't keep up at times.

Good story but audio too quiet

Enjoyed this story, it was really frustrating to listen to but I guess P James would class this as a success! I found the narrator often lowered his voice so that it couldn’t be heard properly. It was fine with headphones but not over a speaker. This is the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars for the performance.

Tense psychological thriller

The story revolves around Consultant obstetrician/gynaecologist Marcus Valentine.. There is nothing at all likeable in him. He becomes dangerously obsessed by personal trainer, who is a runner and uploads her runs and her routes to a social media platform allowing Marcus to know where she goes. He follows her on social media, and he follows her for real! Very creepy!

I found the book a bit slow to get going but then the tension ramps up and it was one of those 'just one more chapter' listens. The book is set on Jersey but I don't feel that Peter James made enough of the island setting. Perhaps the book is a tiny bit predictable, and Valentine is a bit too much of a pantomime villain, but all in all this was an excellent listen.

Bit predictable

After a promising start I found the story and the characters a bit predictable. I thought several times about returning it, but kept going - in the end my optimism was misplaced.
