About this listen
Paisley Mott struggles with anxiety. Her particular blend of anxiety causes her to go into a hyper-focused state, which can lead to more anxiety. After the tragic death of her mother, she began to see her anxiety-induced hyper-focus as a strength. Now, she's a paranormal investigator with an up-and-coming web series that is propelling her into becoming an expert in her field.
Hollis Grimm is a charismatic preacher from the small Appalachian mining town of Grey Water Ridge. When he contacts Paisley to help shine some light on the mysterious mutilation of seven women in the woods outside of town, she is on the first flight out. It wasn't the murders that drew her to the South or the charming preacher, but the claim that the locals believe God has sent a creature to punish the town for its sins. And that this isn't the first time.
The preacher, an outsider turned sheriff, an heiress and internet celebrity, a man obsessed with the past, an old-timer with an ax to grind, an obsessed fan, and a growing number of bodies stand between Paisley and the truth. After digging into the dark secrets of the town’s history she must decide what is more dangerous, the monster in the woods, or the people who believe in him. If she isn't careful, she will not be leaving Grey Water Ridge with the story, let alone her life.

Great escapism!
As someone who mostly listens to non-fiction I’m always looking for a great recreational story I can immerse myself in in-between arduous study and here it is.
A wonderful story that keeps you guessing until the very end. A cross genre of crime, mystery and supernatural horror that has movie like moments (no spoilers but one in particular hit as fast as the Red Wedding). The characters are well rounded, some you’ll love and some you’ll love to hate but all will definitely have you wanting to know their back stories!
I usually look for audio books narrated by the author but the narrator here was a great choice for the main character. Would love to read more from this author!

Beware the Sasquatch!
A great debut by Kalvin. I was asked to do the audio book for this and found it to be an enjoyable experience. A very nice plot filled by mystery and suspense and a great cast of characters. You can well imagine the laces and the people which make up Graywater Ridge and you are left constantly wondering just what is going on in this town! I like Paisley Mott as a main figure, she really does have something to her that will entice the reader (or in this instance listener) and make you want to follow her on her journey into the alleged Sasquatch affair. I also like Hyacinth and Hollis, the social media influencer and the Preacher, respectively. Both of them add something to the mysterious nature of the book and both do make for strong members of the main cast and further intrigue you into this one. Overall 4.5/5 Stars for me. A great debut for Ellis and one that all mystery fans should go for!
