Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Just okay.

I was disappointed that the accompanying pdf did not contain any language instruction merely telling about the nature of the course. I find I need both audio and written help in language learning. A book without audio is of no help to me nor audio without written help. So...this will be returned. I have decided to go to Buntús Cainte instead. This is also available on Amazon.

Not worth the cost

I’ve downloaded this as a refresher but I have to say that the dialect is an issue and it’s too short to be of much use. You could cover this all in a day.

Wrong dialect.

This course uses the wrong dialect. The one used for this course is the Munster dialect, hopefully it can be rectified.

Incredibly basic and tedious

I'm Irish and was looking for an audiobook to brush up on the language. My first main issue is that they never state which dialect they're using and the pronunciations in this book are unlike anything I've ever heard. On top of that, each half hour chapter slowly and painfully introduces one or two phrases that is repeated ad nauseum. I have learned 3 languages now through audiobooks and podcasts, but this is the only audiobook I've ever given up on.

Incorrect Language

I downloaded this book as I was looking for a refresher. I'm Irish and I'm not sure what dialect they are teaching but it is definitely not a common one. The method is good but its teaching the incorrect language and pronunciation for many of the words and it needs to be updated or to state that this is an uncommon dialect.

Pronunciations Incorrect

There are lots of different Irish pronunciations but basics such as "dia dhuit" in Ulster, Munster and Connacht pronunciations, the "dia" is pronounced "jee-ah". In this they prounce it with a "d" sound at the start. It makes trusting any of the other pronunciations very difficult. They also somehow managed to get 3 syllables out of "Gaeilge". Maybe if you specified what pronunciation you are using?
