About this listen
Ellie Nelson finds key evidence for a case she was ordered to close. Her persistence results in her being fired and the evidence taken from her, but not before she’d gotten a glimpse. What Ellie knows makes her a target of a Denver-Kansas City crime family and a person of interest for the FBI task force that is investigating them. Ellie has to find a way to keep her feelings for one of the FBI agents in check, stay one step ahead of the mob, and figure out what to do with the rest of her life.

Boston's a long way from Kansas City.
Eleanor Nelson, Denver assistant DA, is unexpectedly fired by her boss for insubordination after removing evidence to examine further after being told that a murder case was solved, case closed - a man had confessed to throwing a prominent lawyer off of the roof of a car park. Furious, after handing in the evidence taken - a key chain with an attached flash drive - and her computer, she barely bothers to go home, instead driving to the Ozarks and the holiday home her parents kept there to pick her sounds and think. Clearing the deep fall of snow that arrived soon after, she finds the body of a man, a jogger who had made a couple of pick-up attempts on previous days. She calls the sheriff...
Key to murder is a detailed and thorough crime investigation with just a whisper of romance in the air. All the evidence is carefully displayed as it is discovered and there is an element of claustrophobic tension as the book develops. The threat is there although there is little physical action; instead, it is more internal, and the characterisation and interaction between the protagonists is well done. Narration by Sitra Bourne, with pleasant to hear voice, is brisk, clear and well modulated, her voicing of the various characters differentiated and appropriate. The reading echoes the slightly clinical aspect of the text. A good story, well told.
My thanks to the rights holder of Key to Murder, who, at my request, freely gifted me a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. I enjoyed the book and look forward to further tales of Ellie Nelson in her new location. Recommended.

Murder
I love listening to murder mysteries. This one did not hook me at the beginning but I did not let this put me off and kept on listening. However, for me I found the pace to be slow. Other than this it is not a bad read.
