About this listen
Tech City: Society is obsessed with relentless progress and the possibility of eternal life. A woman and a man meet in waiting room, anticipating a procedure that will incorporate the latest science and technology into their minds and bodies, heightening their awareness and increasing their productivity. Years pass, their relationship deepens and fades, and they grow increasingly uncertain where the AI stops and where they begin. A romantic drama exploring the potentiality of transhumanism, Life Ever After is a rich listening experience that is at once naturalistic and poetic.
Playwright Carla Grauls was awarded a commission through the Audible Emerging Playwrights Fund, an initiative dedicated to developing innovative original plays driven by language and voice. As an Audible commissioned playwright, she received funding and creative support to develop Life Ever After.

Wonderful, Thought Provoking Sci Fi
Loved this. I listened to it on a long drive by myself. I was utterly immersed in the characters and their progression. It was a bit short - but still, excellent.

More Please!
That was fantastic, the story was original and had me binging through the whole thing in one sitting. Will definitely be looking for more from the author.

Lovely listen for a Sunday Morning!
This was a thought-provoking piece of work. Where do the boundaries lie between what it is to be human, and what it is to be "enhanced"? That, as well as the nature of relationships and what are the strings that bind us, are themes that are beautifully explored here. I enjoyed the lyricism of the writing, and the dialogue felt real to me. It also has to be said that the voice artists were really well-chosen. This was a terrific performance from both the main protagonists. The flow of time and technology will open its hands and tell all. Cambridge University has recently been gifted £150 million to investigate the ethics of artificial intelligence, and Elon Musk has commented that AI is more dangerous than Nuclear weapons. We live in interesting times. Open my heart and watch it ticking and you will find it resonating with Carla's vignette. Have a listen. It will be time very well spent.

Brilliantly thought provoking look to the future
It was my first play I listened to. It was a little bit of an adjustment listening to a play instead of seeing and experiencing one, so it took a bit of getting used to.
Life Ever After takes the timelessness of a love story through the barrage of tech upgrades and future choices questioning what part is human and what part of us we still want to keep for ourselves in our evolving cities. In these times where we unquestioningly accept technical upgrades on our computers and adapt to our smart phones, Life Ever After gives me a pause for thought.
This play is an upgrade to a Phillip K Dick kind of thinking in a time when we are not so mindful of our changing world. We need more of this kind of literature.

Beautiful. Goes deep.
I loved this - it was excellent in every way: story, sound design, performances. I felt culture shock and discomfort, the performance nudging me to ask how distinct my own identity is from the messages and algorithms guiding me.
