Summary
The 14th thriller in the Spider Shepherd series promises even more gripping action from The Sunday Times best seller Stephen Leather.
Working undercover is all about trust - getting the target to trust you and then betraying them in order to bring them to justice.
But what do you do when you believe an undercover cop has crossed the line and aligned herself with the international drugs smuggler she was supposed to be targeting?
When a deep-undercover cop stops passing on intelligence about her target, MI5 sends in Dan 'Spider' Shepherd to check that she is on the straight and narrow.
Now two lives are on the line - and Shepherd discovers that the real danger is closer to home than he realised.
As Spider finds his loyalties being tested to the limit, an SAS killer is on a revenge mission in London, and only Spider can stop him.

Not the best spider book
This isn't my favourite spider book by a long shot. The story is clunky, one of the bad guys is boring and the others are 2 dimensional caricatures. For such a poignant issue Leather could have really done alot better. The subject matter was tough, and the writing didn't do it justice. The usual interesting technical detail leather goes into is in this case about boats and fairly dull. This is the first time I've felt like this about a spider book, so 1 miss 13 hits so far. I have high hopes for the next one.

Great read, Excellent Author and Narrator!
Who does not love another Spider novel? Totally enthralling from start to finish, though I have to say as a father of two young girls this novel also made me feel sick to the stomach at times. But I guess that is all part of the emotional journey a good book will take you on.
Only downside was with the audio production, there seemed to be not enough of a pause between chapters or changes in character perspective, it's only a small negative but was still a bit confusing at times.

Another good Spider Shepherd book
The only criticism I'd have is that the narrator didn't pause between chapters and it took a few seconds to realise that he'd switched between characters and moved onto a new chapter. Perhaps a few seconds pause or an announcement of the chapter number would be good. Otherwise a really good Spider book.

Very interesting. Exceptional series. I would give five stars for the series.
P.S. I only give a novel a score of five stars for what I would class a classic or something like a modern classic, as much as I like Stephen Leather.
And to give five stars for the narrator, it has to be an exceptional performance, as much as I like Paul Thornly.
