Summary

After their recent adventures, the Lockwood & Co team deserve a well-earned break...so naturally they decide to risk their lives breaking into a heavily guarded crypt. A building full of unsettled souls, it's also the final resting place of Marissa Fittes, the legendary and (supposedly) long-dead ghost hunter. What they discover their will change everything.

So begins a race to get to the truth behind 'the Problem' and an epic struggle against the Fittes agency. A struggle that will pit the team against the most terrifying enemy they have ever faced. Not even the dead will survive unscathed....

Jonathan Stroud once again delivers a rousing adventure full of danger, laughs, twists and frights, with incredible revelations that will send listeners back to the first audiobook to start the series all over again.

Great conclusion to a great series

Ghost hunting, deadly encounters and revelations about The Problem that will have you laughing and crying in equal measure. Emily Bevan narrates the story incredibly well, bringing life to all the characters.

Fantastic stories well read

A brilliant tale continuing the Lockwood and Co story. No spoilers here. It was great and the whole series of books deserve a listen or read, probably both. I’m off to buy a copy now.

Que book hangover

I'm a 28 year old mum who hates cleaning.. about 3 months ago, I watched the Lockwood and co series on Netflix and needed to know what was behind Lockwood's door coz let's be honest, it's the worst place to leave a series and decide not to do the whole thing.. I was pleased to find out that the series was insanely faithful to the first 2 books and needed to read the rest!! Great series and loves that romance isn't included but twigged on, I'm not a fan of romance myself, but this one got me pleading for at least a kiss somewhere.. brilliant series.. now to find a new one that compares x

Finally, Emily Bevan can almost pronounce skull

Like I said, finally she can almost pronounce skull instead of school. Almost. Sadly, her narration is equally over the top as it was in the previous 2 books. She has a slight vocal fry that reverberates when she pronounces some words. Makes her sound like Marge Simpson when she gets annoyed. But the real problem with that is that everyone sounds like skull every now and then. Also she did George and Quill Kipps very poorly. George sounds like an 80-year old and Quill sounds like a granny. Lucy sounds as agitated as if she's a 9-year old who ate batteries for breakfast and Lockwood giggles every second sentence even if he's not saying anything funny. But the story is amazing and that saved everything.

Edited after listening to these books for over 10 times. The performance in volumes 3-5 annoyed me in the beginning but then it grew on me like a fungus, until I ended listening to these books over and over again. Now I like George, Lockwood, and Quill Kipps and can't hear Lucy's accent.

Explosive finale to an excellent series

As usual Mr Stroud's storytelling genius doesn't let you down. The whole series has been captivating and an absolute jo to listen to. His descriptions of characters and places are so thorough that you feel as though you are there in the story, watching Lockwood & Co going through the motions and ready to toss in that flare to help them save the day. Although the main characters in this book are in their teens, I wouldn't say it is just a book for children. I've personally seen 21 twice and then some years added on, but I have loved listening to the whole series. All five books were well narrated, but this one, and the previous two, I'd say were the most satisfying. Emily Bevan really does seem to capture the characters well and pours life and soul into the books. I would definitely recommend this book, and indeed the whole series, to anyone, of any age, who enjoys fast paced adventures with plenty of things that go bump in the night! It's one of those series that I know will come out again and again, even when I have other books on my 'to be read' or 'listen to' list. Loved it!

Netflix missed out

What an absolute gem of a series. I only started reading after watching season one of the show. I have loved every book since finding out they cancelled the show, which was amazing. Unfortunately they missed out.

Un-put down able

This was a fantastic end to the series. The story was pitched perfectly with the right amount of suspense, jeopardy and comedy.

Great series - sorry it’s finished

You must read this - can be read on its own but better if you read earlier books first. All the characters are fab and well developed. Love them all including Flo Bones.

Perfect results, every time!

I wish I knew how Peter Stroud manages to write such great storylines, each book adding layers of colour and feeling to the previous ones. I just hope there will be more, as many as he can manage.
There is no way the series should be thought of as children's literature, or even young adult. They are nuanced and the equal of any adult fantasy and paranormal series. The characters just happen to be young and the stories fast paced and gripping.
Finally I want to add my appreciation for the narrator. The range of voices is impressive and the sentences are spoken with perfect inflection in an authentic British manner. You'd think that would be a minimum for narrators of stories set in the UK, but it's as rare as hen's teeth in my experience. Well done indeed!
