About this listen

October 1604. Plague has hit London, and the theatres are closed. But the capital's loss is Plymouth's gain, when a London theatre troupe, the Company, arrive on their 'Plague Tour'.

Country physician Gabriel Taverner is bewitched and unnerved by the Company's sexually charged staging of Othello. But when Gabriel's friend tells him of a dangerous whispered conversation overheard during a brief break, he is relieved the Company will soon be on their way. Then one of the actors collapses, and Gabriel finds himself caught in a waking nightmare, where nothing is as it appears.

Death is stalking the Company - but how can Gabriel hope to catch a cold-blooded killer, if he can't even trust the evidence of his own eyes?

Magic doesn't exist. Does it?

Great plot, as usual in the Gabriel Taverner series. Alys Clare draws you in, entrances you and makes you wonder. The characters are so well drawn that I feel that I know them.
Just a bit concerned about the many and regular bashes to the head Gabe receives yet can still function as a doctor.
The narration is excellent differentiating clearly between the characters.

Another thrilling adventure

This is the fourth in the Gabriel Taverner series and it just get better. Alys Clare is a sterling author and I love all of her books. Combining her story and John Telfer as narrator is a match made in heaven and I cannot recommend this series highly enough. what a joy!

Another great listen in the series

Yet another excellent historical mystery. I did find I liked this one slightly less than the others in the series. Felt a little repetitive at times and a little confusing. I still enjoyed the adventure though. The narration again was great.

Worst book in the series

I've listened to and enjoyed the previous 3 books in this series, this one however is extremely slow and boring, I managed 4 hours before deciding I was wasting my time. I won't be wasting a credit on the 5th book.
