Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Golden Tower by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare, read by Paul Boehmer.

A generation ago, powerful mage Constantine Madden came close to achieving what no magician had ever achieved: the ability to bring back the dead. He didn't succeed . . . but he did find a way to keep himself alive, inside a young child named Callum Hunt.

Facing up to what he is, Callum has battled chaos and evil across four years of magical training at the Magisterium, eventually defeating the armies of chaos in an epic battle.

It came at a cost.

Now, triumphant and heartbroken, Callum Hunt has just about had enough, and is ready to complete his training. But the evil Callum faced has not given up just yet . . .

So sad it's over

I fell in love with this series, it just kept getting better and better. After finishing this book I had to take a break from reading and listening for a while as I was just so overwhelmed by the story, the narrator is perfect from the first book all the way to the last and I would happily recommend this book to anyone of any age.

Great conclusion to a fun series

While this series has many echos of Harry Potter it is sufficiently uninique and in many respects superior to Harry Potter - less internal inconsistency within the magic system, better overall messages. the narrator performs brilliantly.

the final book

story is five star. characters continue to a final which is gripping. i only gave 3 stars for performance because i found it jerky and disjointed. not as smooth as the others in the series. that said i could only give it 4 stars overall.

Great series

Loved this set, really good to keep interest as you never can work out good or evil.

The best in the series.

I found that I enjoyed this book most out of the series. There are some serious point and plots in the story. But most of all, there are lots of bits that I found funny from the sheer bizarre point of view of the protagonist.

Extremely Disappointing

the authors could have done much more with the story line if had made it longer. it feels like a rushed story where they had ideas but didn't expand on any of them, i kept waiting for something exciting to happen and nothing came of it.

I have a few questions…

Cole drove originally in a previous book but here it’s said it was Aaron, which is incorrect.

Secondly, one will die, one is already dead and one will fail. So the first two happened but the last one is completely ignored. Who failed? I thought it’d be Tamara failing at the golden gate because nobody had failed at that point but, nope, she passed.

Also, how did Callum overcome the evil and much stronger existence once he unlocked the memories? You have a guy who’s been alive centuries who subdued the enemy of death, being subdued by an alternate persona that’s only 16 years old? This book makes no sense. The alternate persona who WASN’T the EOD was a really cool idea but Alex’s personality and the ending just let the whole series down.
