Summary

Romantic comedy with heart, perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Lindsey Kelk and Mhairi McFarlane.

Jess, a 29-year-old Londoner with a Kate Beckett fringe and a tendency for dramatics, gets taken on a surprise trip by her long-term boyfriend, Pete, to attend her best friend’s last-minute wedding in South Africa. Jess imagines sun, sand, wine and safaris. And returning to London with an ethically mined diamond on her left hand...

But this holiday isn’t set to be quite the fairy tale Jess has planned. Suddenly she finds her world tilting on its axis, and things are only set to get worse when Jess returns home....

Catherine Bennetto is back with her trademark wit and an equally hilarious cast of characters who will have you rooting for them from the first minute.

A fun easy read.

So this isn't the most challenging of books but it was an easy read with humour and a few twists along the way. I absolutely loved the narrator who really made the main character believable and relatable. If you want an easy listen/read then this is for you.

very enjoyable

i can't give this book 5 stars because i found the start of it to be a little slow. not a lot happened but many pages were filled. the book however really opened up and because as witty and as well written as other reviews had suggested. in the end i was genuinely sad to finish it.

Disappointing

Good narration, but not as funny or poignant as the reader was led to believe. How the narrator felt any empathy for the silly, self absorbed heroine I can’t imagine, I really didn’t like her much. Disappointing, as I have enjoyed other titles by this author.

Nearly gave up, glad I didn't

I found the main character intensely irritating to begin with, the catastrophising verged on the ridiculous and was over used such that I just wanted them to get on with the story. I nearly gave up, but I'm mostly glad I didn't. It was a decent story, albeit with a unsatisfactory ending. To be fair, I'm not sure how it could end neatly given the situation! Worth a listen, but just the once.

Tough going

I had to pause this book and go do other thing multiple times as it was incredibly hard to get through. I did finish it in the end and was glad I did but the main character is incredibly paranoid and neurotic, the people around her just let her get on with it. I found it hard to like her.

Poor German accent

The book was overall entertaining and fun to listen to, although the main character is a bit bonkers.
But as a native German I felt slighted irritated by the poor German accent performed by the narrator. It’s like there was no practice before and the actual German words impossible to understand.

Not as good as I'd hoped

I had really high hopes for this book as I LOVED 'how not to fall in love, actually'. That book was brilliant. In complete contrast, I found this book a struggle to finish. The main character was very self centred and annoying. The plot dragged in places and could easily have been cut down by at least a third. I limped to the end but only in the hope it would get better. Sorry, but cant recommend this one.
