Summary

Don't miss this hilarious debut for fans of Beth O'Leary and Mhairi McFarlane.

Rachel thought this was her year. Life had other plans.

  1. Re-download Couch to 5K, and actually do the programme
  2. Apply for promotion. Avoid projects about dog biscuits, 'miracle' grass seed, etc.
  3. DO NOT agree to further dates with Laurence
  4. Try to remember Mum means well (!!!)
  5. Start using proper night cream with retinol

As her mother likes to remind her, Rachel Ryan is 30 with no partner, hardly any savings and no mortgage. But when she makes her resolutions she's sure this is her year.

By February things are not going to plan. Her career is in chaos as the new guy at work is none other than Jack Harper, who broke her heart at university—and despite herself the chemistry is still there. Plus her best friend has news that will change everything.

As life starts to fall apart around her, will Rachel be able to move on from the past and make some very different resolutions?

Maybe then she'll see what's right in front of her.

Bit slow and predictable

If you want a nice little story to pass the hours then this is ok.

The reader is as fab - great voices and nice narration.

The story was very predictable and went on for too long in places.

Loved, loved loved this !

Beautifully crafted, gripping and sometimes very moving story, and truly excellent narration. Strongly recommend and can't wait for Ms Starkey's next book.

Nice story light read

Enjoyed the story. The characters grew exposing different layers of them throughout the story . I skipped through the 2 min diary entries half way though the book as they got repetitive and annoying. Worth a read a good holiday book.

lovely story

I really liked this story and the sound effects the narrator did were a great addition, wish more narrators did this kind of thing.
The story was great and early on it wasn't obvious who she would actually end up with which is a change from the very obvious rom com.
I do have to say Rachel's 'best friend ' Anna came across as very judgemental and not very best friend at all in the latter part of the book, which made me angry on Rachel's behalf, she was nowhere near as bad as they made out.
sign of a good book when you feel emotions like that because you're so engrossed in the story though lol I also ended up crying at one point too 🤭

Nice

I downloaded this based on the reviews. I must admit that I was expecting more after reading the rave reviews but it was very well read and it was a nice little story, fairly predictable but enjoyable.

An Alright listen 2 Stars ⭐⭐

This is the first book I have listened too by Laura Starkey and I liked it.

I love romcom Chicklit books , so this was my cuppa tea.

Also as Tom had an important exhibition I am sure his 3 best friends would have been there on opening night 🌙 I thought that bit was unrealistic.

The ending let the book down, I wanted there to be more but there wasn't.
When you read a book or listen you get invested and you want the end to be a fantastic firework NOT a fizzle.

I wouldn't recommend a credit on this book but I don't mind it was in the £2.99 sale
